Studio Apartment is a fresh take on the musical, exploring what it means to create alone and together. The short stars actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Ryan Kattner (Honus Honus) of the band Man Man.
LOGLINE: Amidst many distractions, Samantha struggles to find her voice recording a new song. She encounters a mysterious stranger who reminds her of why she loves to create music.
"You think this is pointless?"
"This song is stuck up there. I can't figure it out. This happens every morning. I can't think of what it is."
The Central Question
What do you do when you've forgotten why you started creating in the first place?
Samantha is a young songwriter trying to record in her apartment. Frustrated by the interruption of her sister and her own sense of self, Samantha decides to take a walk. On her walk she meets a stranger sleeping in a bush who can't remember the name of a song stuck in his head. Samantha remembers the song, it's one of her father's favorites. She and the Stranger slip into a musical, singing "Jackie Wilson Said" by Van Morrison. Reminded of her love of music, Samantha returns home, ready to create.
It's a Musical

Why I want to make this film
A note from our director:
This story explores themes of failure, struggle and family dynamics. Musicals have long been a marginalized medium, but I feel they are the perfect way to bring forward the internal struggles of a musician while letting life slip into something more surreal.
I feel this short is a great chance for me to express myself creatively. It is going to be a huge and challenging undertaking but I believe in the story and the characters. The music Ryan has created is powerful. Mary is a terrific talent that I am so lucky and excited to work with. I want to make this film so that I can bring all the skills I have learned together and push myself further than I ever have before.

All small projects need a little love so show us a little love! We'd really appreciate it.
Risks and challenges
The Challenges of making this film will be executing a musical scene with choreography and singing. As well as having that aspect of the film fit with the rest of the reality of Samantha's story.
