About this project
What is Jackfish ?
Jackfish is an indestructible super slim card holder containing essential everyday tools.
What can i do with it ?
At just 8.5mm thick, Jackfish can carry 4 of your credit cards. It is full of handy equipment that can help you throughout your working day, or it might just save your life if you get into trouble. From taking notes with the pen, tightening a screw on your glasses to lighting a fire in the wet and purifying water - Jackfish has you covered.
Who’s it for ?
Jackfish is designed for people that work, travel and explore. It is built for people who appreciate great design and quality. It is for those who see the need for handy tools but don't want to bulk up their pockets or bag which is already full.

How did we ensure a quality product?
We have been carrying jackfish prototypes for over a year, sliding it in and out of pockets, paying for things with our cards, travelling around the world, backpacking in the forest. We didn't want to design something that worked for a couple of years and then broke. It was important it did its job extremely well, felt right in the hand, was truly useful and lasted a lifetime.
We spent months designing the mechanism to insert and hold the cards. We went for the more costly option of carving the entire part from a solid block of titanium. The slight curve to the card guides allows the cards to slip in and out effortlessly, and as its one piece there is nothing to break or come loose. At Jackfish we like to over engineer things, and then make it as simple as possible. We test and test until it is perfect.
We are not a fan of anodised aluminium that scratches after rubbing against a few coins. Anodising is great for its finish and choice of colours - but it was not suitable for the Jackfish. We turned to a process called hard anodising, it is extremely hard wearing.
At Jackfish survival we love to explore. One day we could be designing in the city, and the next, light weight backpacking in the forest. Since our childhood we have never left home without a tool or two to help us fix our bike, our car, build ikea furniture or to help us out of anything life throws at us.
At Jackfish, our philosophy on building a pocket survival kit is you need to be using 50% of the products on a daily or weekly basis. The other 50% hopefully you will never need, but just in case, the tools are there if you need them. If you are not using your kit from time to time, the day will come when you stop putting it in your pocket, and that could be the day when you really need it.

Who are we?
We are a family run business based in London, UK. We design and manufacture robust equipment for the photography and film industry, and in our spare time we produce bespoke furniture and art work. Our combined skills make a very effective team, and we are very confident we can produce a Jackfish of the highest quality and deliver it on time.
Mike has over 45 years experience delivering complex projects from SMEs to £100 million defence contracts. He specialises in project management, engineering and manufacturing.
James has been designing and manufacturing for over 16 Years. He has successfully launched companies in the 360 photography and video field, and holds patents for his turntable equipment.
Tina is our creative director and is an expert in art and design. Her organisational skills are the glue that holds the company together to keep it running smoothly.
We will be shipping out the Jackfish at the end of March 2016. We use UPS to ship our products around the world, so they should be with everyone by the first week of April.
We have spent the last year and half working on Jackfish, and we have the people and expertise in place to make all this happen. Our manufacturing partners are waiting to press the button.
But we need your help
We need to reach our £20,000 goal to finish this journey. With this money we can bring the cost down of a larger CNC run, and order all the Jackfish components in larger quantities. With this project fully backed we can continue to design new and interesting products for our new community. Jackfish is ready for spring next year - all we need is you.
Free tools for kickstarter
We could not do this without you, so for supporting us we are offering kickstarter backers all the tools for free. The retail product will be sold at a slightly higher price, but at retail, the Jackfish will be sold empty.
Free Titanium lanyard ring for ALL kickstarter backers
Not only will all the tools come for free, we are giving every Kickstarter backer a free titanium lanyard ring. This will only be available on kickstarter, and will not be sold at retail.

Risks and challenges
We have had lots of experience in manufacturing and dealing with the 1000s of different problems that can arise. We can only assure you that if something does happen, we will keep you updated at all times, and fix it as quickly as possible. We are using factories that we have worked with for many years and we have a really good relationship with them. We have never known them to be delayed for more than a week. Our schedule has allowed for 2 weeks of delays.
Many kickstarter projects are ambitious and some push the boundaries of technology - this is fantastic and it’s what this community is all about, but it’s also the recipe for long delays. We have deliberately designed Jackfish to be very simple and produced by CNC. This process has been around for 60 years and we are experts in it. The final Jackfish samples were excellent, so all we have to do now is start the machines.
The most important part of business is communication, and over the next few months we will dedicate a lot of time to just talking to you guys. Not only do we want to tell you how it's all going, but we want to send weekly videos on how to use all the tools.
As well as unavoidable delays in shipping around the world, the only other delay we can think of is being a perfectionist. We can not let anything leave the workshop that is not perfect. We have allowed a week to check each individual component before it goes out, but a few more days or a week at the most may be needed if it's not just right.
