We have been working on opening a micro-brewery on Manitoulin Island for the past four years. We make our beer in our garage and it is excellent beer, even if we do say so ourselves :). Restaurant and bar owners as well as many others knowledgeable in the craft beer industry agree, and everyone who tastes it is keen to sell or drink our suds.
We can't wait to offer fresh local great tasting beer to people on Manitoulin and elsewhere!
WHERE YOU COME IN
This KickStarter campaign will still go to equipment, inventory and licensing costs so that Split Rail will be ready to produce and sell our delicious beer by the fall.
Funding the significant start-up costs of a commercial brewery is complicated and although we expect provincial job creation and rural economic development programs to help support the project (and we also continue to explore private equity opportunities), we still need your help to put a few of these fundamental pieces in place....and so we are trying again with this KickStarter campaign - round 2!
Split Rail Brewing Company is becoming a highly anticipated launch in these parts. The buzz is growing and you can be part of it!

The brewery will host a 15HL brewhouse similar to this one above.
Split Rail Floor Plan
The brewery will have a manufacturing section, offices, and a separate retail, tasting and touring space where you can sample beer while watching the brewing process in action. The building will be constructed with energy efficiency, employee health & safety, and beer quality as key priorities.

Risks and challenges
Our biggest challenge has been finding a suitable brewing site, but recently Billings Township on Manitoulin approached us about possibly locating in Kagawong and so we are working with the Township toward the goal of creating a mutually beneficial business partnership.
We've tackled and overcome all sorts of challenges in getting to where we are, from perfecting our copper lager recipe to surprising a few customers with the idea that, yes indeed, two hard working women can run a great brewery! The hard work is paying off and we anticipate our first real sales by fall of 2014.
Split Rail has produced an exceptional craft beer. Our Copper Lager is market-proven and ready to roll. People are demanding more!
We are ready on the business side of operations too. Split Rail has assembled an experienced and dedicated team. Our brewmaster has a 30 year professional history in the beer-making business.
The partners, Andrea and Eleanor, have worked together for years - as staff at YMCA Camp Pine Crest, tree planters, and now as Co-Executive Directors in a social service agency - we are compatible and adept at problem solving while keeping our sense of humour intact.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
