"Chasing Watermelons" Children's picture book
Join Duck and his friends on a surprising adventure as they chase watermelons for a watermelon feast. Pre-k through 3rd grade.
Duck woke one morning and waddled to the watermelon patch. "Today," he said, "I am going to have a watermelon feast." When he got there, he was surprised to find that all the watermelons had been picked and packed in crates to be sent to market. "I will open one crate," he said. "Then I will have a watermelon feast." But when Duck tried to open the crate, it broke apart and the watermelons began to roll.
Chasing Watermelons is a delightful story of a young duck and his friends' escapades as they attempt to catch elusive watermelons for a watermelon feast. Use of repetition and active illustrations in this 32 page hardcover keep young readers and listeners hooked from beginning to end, and will be perfect for multiple readings. This wonderful story will be the third successful book written, Illustrated, and published by brothers Kevin and Rex White. Your pledges will help cover the printing cost of the first 1000 books.
Here are a few images that may appear in the book...we have lots of editing and revising discussions to go...but you should have an idea what we're hoping for.
And then the craziness really begins! Join the chase, and laugh at the unique and funny ways that Duck and his friends chase a train, boat, airplane and more. Will they ever get to have their watermelon feast? Help us publish, and find out!
This project is part of a larger attempt to build a successful publishing house from the ground up.
Our first book, Stubby Pencil Noodlehead got a 5-star review from Kid Lit Reviews. http://kid-lit-reviews.com/2012/07/18/stubby-pencil-noodlehead-by-kevin-white/
Big publishing companies determine most of what gets printed, and large distribution companies control which of those get to be easily viewed by consumers. Anything produced independent of these giants is bound to be crushed by the myriad of slamming doors in their faces. It is almost impossible to learn everything needed to successfully write, illustrate, publish, and market a professional quality picture book.
I said "almost".
Chimeric Press does not intend to walk with the "giants". We intend to walk where they don't.
We'll do it smarter than the giants.
The truth is, big publishers only target a small part of the general population. Chimeric Press has developed a plan to market books to the "white space" surrounding typical picture book consumers. We intend to market directly to this vast number of potential consumers who are specifically not included in the "giants'" marketing plan.
One thing is for certain, whether chasing dreams or watermelons, the people we invite on the adventure can help us all succeed. In the words of the un-deterable Duck, "If you help, you can have some too."
