Stonehearth Alpha 8 Released!

Dear backers,

We've officially released a new update to the game! This video walks through the major features in Stonehearth Alpha 8.

  • The Blacksmith, who can smelt ore into metal ingots, then forge those ingots into weapons and armor for your footmen.
  • Mining enhancements, including the ability to discover rich ore veins underground
  • The Party System. You can now organize your units into parties and control them on the battlefield. This is the first step to a more robust combat experience overall
  • Graphical and lighting improvements. Particles now glow when appropriate, and lights cast more accurate shadows.

Future Updates

Over the last few months we think we've hit our stride, and are picking up speed. We're going to push ourselves to release a new version about once a month for the next five months. Each of these releases will be about as significant as Alpha 8, containing at least one big gameplay feature or content push.

That's it for now! I'll post again when we have a better understanding of what to expect from Alpha 9.

Thanks,

-Tom on behalf of Team Stonehearth

Bang up job thus far, guys! The new 64 bit client fixed my crashing issues, but it looks like once you get enough resources gathered and about 20 some odd citizens. The AI gets stupid, like they can't find resources to pick up and will not complete projects outside a very small window around the center of town. However, being that we are only in alpha 8, you guys have done amazing work. I have beta tested games that were buggier and more unstable than your alpha. Thanks!

@ Ports to Mac and Linux: Last week they mentioned this will not happen before the game is more feature complete around Alpha 15 (?) but should not take too much time then

@Bonuswavepilot: I think this is intended by Radiant Entertainment :P

Guy's are doing an awesome job and HS is progressing very well! Enjoying every minute of it!

So exciting! I haven't played any of the alpha's yet for fear of bugs and such bothering me, although I follow updates. Would you say I should hop in at this point, or keep waiting a bit longer?

Of all the kickstarter projects I've backed, you guys are my favorite. You are a small but dedicated team, producing an interesting game. You haven't promised anything beyond your capabilities, and each update delights me with your progress.

Thank you for putting in the time and effort to develop your wonderful game, and for taking us on the journey through the development process.

I for one would like to know more about GNU/Linux support for Stonehearth. I know it's coming, but I wouldn't mind a timeframe even if it's a little vague.

As for alpha 8, it looks great. The dynamic lighting is a solid addition.

I too would like to know a rough timeline for Mac support.

Heres to shamelessly begging for mac support

While I have not been able to play because I cannot correctly get my computer prepared to run it; I have been watching the videos and keepin up so intently with the updates. I love everything you are doing and have done and cannot wait for the day I can just place the game easily on my Mac. I know it's not the priority right now and I'm very patient. I'm just excited to see all of the progress this team has made in the real world and in the game. Bravo, Radiant Entertainment crew...bravo! Keep up the amazing work.

Any hint even of when Mac support might come online?

I gotta say that I love this game so far, a few things until it's a finished game, but what the development and progression they've made to the game since they first released alpha I am impressed! I look forward to the full game.

Looks good folks! One language niggle - the Ancient Oak Tree apparently 'radiants a mysterious aura' - I think you want 'radiates' there.

Really love how the game is shaping up. Great work!

Thanks for the feedback Larry. We are indeed aware of the issue. Glad you're having fun!

Just wanted to leave a feedback here, i'm sure you already know of the issue. Distance seems to be an issue with the units. If units are too far away from something, they will just stand around instead of get any work done. I had to slowly get them to harvest their way back to the main camp/town. The main problem with this was that I received a soldier at random, at the edge of the visible area, and he just stood there instead of joining the party.
Everything else in this is so far working great for me. Having alot of fun with it when I play.
