The Whomping Willows: 1975 (Backstory)
I have been serving as the Whomping Willow's muggle host body for concerts and public appearances since December 2005. In recognition of my contributions to the Whomping Willow's musical career, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry recently invited me to the opening of a time capsule that was originally assembled and hidden away in 1975. Headmistress Minerva McGonagall had received a tip from the Whomping Willow that the time capsule contained something that might interest me. Although I've heard my visit to Hogwarts was frowned upon by some members of the wizarding school's staff, I was able to make the journey to Hogwarts and take part in the ceremony.
The opening of the time capsule revealed an incredible surprise: A demo tape in a shoddy case, labeled "Whomping Willows Demos - 1975"! For years, the Whomping Willow has claimed that his self-titled debut (based on events in the early- to mid-1990s, but released in 2006) represented his first attempt at music, but apparently he was hiding something. After some light prodding, the sneaky magical tree revealed that the demo tape was in fact a full album, revolving around Marauders-era events and recorded in 1975!
After an emotional meeting, the Whomping Willow granted me permission to restore the album, convert it to contemporary digital format, and release it on my DIY record label, Cheap Rent Records.
What's Being Funded?
Funds received via this Kickstarter campaign will help me restore The Whomping Willows: 1975 to a suitable condition and arrange for the album to be professionally mastered. I can perform some associated tasks myself, but hiring a professional sound engineer will be necessary to see this process to completion. And those folks are expensive.
At the moment, the plan is for this album to be released in digital format only. This is primarily due to the Whomping Willow's regret over creating so much physical waste in the form of CDs over the past several years. However:
If this campaign raises $3000, I will look into a creative form of digital release with a physical component. I have some awesome, creative ideas for this, but I don't want to provide details until I can confirm them for sure. Note: Anyone donating at the $25 level or above would receive an automatic upgrade to this semi-physical format!
If this campaign raises $5000, I will book a two- to three-week record release tour! I will take the location of my Kickstarter donors into consideration when scheduling tour dates. I can't make any specific promises, obviously, but I can guarantee that your voice will be heard!
If this campaign raises $10000, I will be able to recommit myself to the process of making music on a full time basis, at least for the next six to eight months. In general, this would mean more creative output, more internet shenanigans, more YouTube videos, more interaction with fans, and more regional and national shows.

Risks and challenges
Releasing an album is a complicated process with many potential obstacles and setbacks. Thankfully, after releasing nearly a dozen albums over the years, I've become somewhat of an expert on everything that can go right and wrong with album production and release.
Regardless, should any specific obstacles present themselves during this process, I'll be sure to keep you all informed as much as humanly (and botanically) possible. I'll be posting regular updates either way -- and I predict that the vast majority of them will be very positive and celebratory in nature!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
