First, I want to thank everyone who has supported this project, every $1, and social media share, gets me that much closer to reaching the $2,000 minimum.
My safety during the completion of this project has been weighing heavy on some of your minds so I wanted to give an update on the precautions I am taking.
I have purchased international travel medical and medical evacuation insurance through MEDex. Currently, I am looking at travelers insurance options to cover my flights and all my camera gear, but this has proven to be the most costly part of my coverage abroad. I will also be visiting a travel doctor on the 29th of March to make sure all my vaccinations are up-to-date and get the prescriptions for any medications (such as anti-malaria) that I might need abroad.
In South Sudan I will be traveling with natives of the village of Maar, and their relatives who are very high up the political ladder (department of defense connections.) We will also have armed security guards with us during the trip.
SSHCO is working on getting my official photography permits from the government so I have no problems while taking photos in South Sudan. I will make sure to be respectful of customs and cautious of who and what I photography without permission.
In Maar we will stay on a compound that is safe and secure.
Once again, thank you! We are almost to my minimum goal of $2,000! I am so excited for this journey to begin!
