For my final exhibition at the art academy in Enschede, Netherlands, I created a board game for high school students to start thinking about their passion, talents and what they can accomplish with them.
The reason I felt the urge to make BeYouNow is that I switched schools so much because I didn't know what my true passion was. I realized that when you grow up people ask you what you want to become. But most people don't learn to really think about what their talents are and where their hearts lie.
I think the most important thing we should learn in high school is missing: what our passions and talents are. BeYouNow makes you think about your personality, what you qualities are and what you can do with them without thinking about education. It kickstarts a creative and independent way of thinking about yourself.
Currently BeYouNow is being tested on different schools and with different ages throughout The Netherlands. Almost everyone is really enthusiastic about this board game and there are already some people that want to purchase BeYouNow. The only obstacle is the production.
I need some money to make BeYouNow come to life. Now I only have a dummy to test the game with but I would like to make 200 pieces to sell.
Risks and challenges
The risks of this project are very clear: because the game has a lot of components the production can take a while to perfect. I am planning on making a test before ordering the whole lot. Making everything the same colour is very important because there are a number of different materials that need printing, like the box, chips, cards and playing board.
Another risk is the time it takes to spread the game. I noticed while contacting different schools to test, that having a way in with someone I know is a lot easier than when I don't have a contact person at that school.
