“There are darknesses in life, and there are lights. You are one of the lights.” —Bram Stoker, Dracula
For all of mankind’s advances in science, the world remains a realm of mystery and supernatural occurrences. The Victorian Era is the age of sinister fictional and historical villains, such as Count Dracula, Mr. Hyde, and Jack the Ripper, and an age when interest in the occult reaches new heights. While Leagues of Adventure firmly focuses on exploration and scientific endeavor, this major expansion is one of restless spirits and haunted houses, crumbling castles and Gothic architecture, fog-shrouded streets and deep forests, decadence and decay, secrets and madness, in which the supernatural defies the rationality of science and cold logic.
This book is an expansion designed for use with Leagues of Adventure, a roleplaying game of Victorian exploration, derring-do, and steampunk devices! The contents are compatible with other Ubiquity-powered games, such as All for One: Regime Diabolique, Hollow Earth Expedition, and Space: 1889.
Leagues of Gothic Horror is a 160-page softback book with black and white printed interior pages and a color cover. Its format size is 8.5 x 11 inches.
Within this book you will find:
- New Archetypes, Skills, Talents, Flaws, Leagues, and weird science devices specifically designed for those devoted to fighting the forces of darkness.
- Eight detailed player characters (with art) and eight henchmen ready to use straight from the book.
- Rules for horror, corruption, fortune-telling, occult grimoires, magic, and mentalism, plus an array of occult relics ranging in power from mere trinkets to potent items of myth and legend.
- Statistics and information on 38 fearsome monsters, 26 human lesser villains and heroic allies, 22 diabolical major villains, and 7 sinister cults.
- A tour of Gothic Horror locales around the world.
- Guidelines for running Gothic Horror adventures and generating a spooky atmosphere around the gaming table.
- Suggested styles for Gothic Horror games, sample campaign settings, and more adventure seeds.
- A timeline and Who's Who of Gothic Horror in the Leagues of Adventure setting.
- A list of literary, audio, and visual references for the budding Gothic Horror Gamemaster.

This 78-page black & white interior, softcover book is packed full of information on life in Victorian London. It includes a 2-page map of the city and details over 120 locations. That's not all, though! As well as three sample player characters there are write-ups for 39 notable inhabitants and 20 stock denizens. There's also a list of important persons and their positions, ensuring the Gamemaster knows the names of key ambassadors, government officials, churchmen, museum curators, newspaper editors, and more!
Although designed for Leagues of Adventure, the information will compliment most any Victorian Era RPG.
The answer to that question is yes and no.
In 2012 we produced the Globetrotters' Guide to Gothic Horror, a 50-page PDF with no art. As popular as the Guide was, PDFs don't sell as well as print books, and the Guide only scratched the surface. With access to Kickstarter, we knew we could tap even deeper into the shadowy world of Gothic Horror and produce a beautiful physical book fit to grace any gamer's shelf.
This book takes the material from Globetrotters' Guide to Gothic Horror, extensively expands and reworks it to over three times the original page count. It also includes brand new spine-tingling art. Instead of it being a guide to Gothic Horror, we've worked hard to produce the guide to Ubiquity-powered Gothic Horror.
The manuscript for Leagues of Gothic Horror is already written and laid out in basic form, so we're not asking you to fund writing or typesetting. The base goal is to fund a new trade dress fitting the genre, interior art, and a full print run to enter distribution.
Kickstarter doesn't separate production and shipping costs. In the same way that you have to add shipping costs to your pledges, so we have to add reward shipping costs into our basic goal. There are also Kickstarters' fees, which currently run at around 10% of the total amount pledged.
Triple Ace Games began in 2008. The masterminds behind the company, Paul "Wiggy" Wade-Williams and Robin Elliott, had previously worked on The Savage World of Solomon Kane and Slipstream settings, among others, for Pinnacle Entertainment Group. Triple Ace Games has produced many popular settings, including Hellfrost, Leagues of Adventure, and All for One: Regime Diabolique, plus the Rocket Race card game. With many years of experience in the games industry, we continue to create fantastic games for everyone.
Risks and challenges
Designing and writing Leagues of Gothic Horror has been completed, so we know exactly what will be going into the final product. We also have a great deal of experience in the field of games publishing, and we think we can deliver this project without problems.
However, things can go wrong with anything that goes into a manufacturing process. We have identified that delays in artwork delivery and delays in manufacturing could happen. So we have allowed additional time in our schedule to enable us to navigate any delay issues. If all goes to plan, we may even be able to deliver the project a little sooner.
We understand the printing process as we have printed a good number of books previous to this project, and we know how to communicate our ideas to the printer. We have discussed proofing requirements, so we know that when the printing press is started our book will match our specification requirements.
With projects like this there is nearly always something that costs more so it is good business sense to have some contingency for this, which we have built in to our costs.
With regard stretch goals, our aim is to have everything ready to ship at the same time. We know exactly how much text and art is required for each book. We have a lot of art requirements, though. Hiring more artists spreads the load, but it also means more could go wrong as there are more links in the chain.
No matter what problems may occur we will always keep our backers and supporters informed of all issues so that you are aware of the situation and how we are dealing with it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
