@Mavric I could not agree more.. It is sad that the genre has changed to be so easy to max LvL w/o grping ever. Myself and some of my old school friends are looking forward to this game.
Downtime was minimal in EQ with a well played group. It was brutal for the solo'ers and should of been. I am hoping Brad finds the happy place he is looking for, but I also hope downtime bites the solo'er in the arse.
Drew, it sure did. MMOs with a group finder, I am lucky to get one word out of my party. No need, rush through at max speed, finish in 3 minutes. If I hear the words "Speed run" again it'll be too soon.
Ryan Chandler, the key would obviously be to make the game fun at all levels, rather than just at max level. Then it doesn't matter how you balance it out.
Already pledged but super happy to hear the whole downtime and talk with party members! I miss those days of EQ, I don't agree socialization is dead in mmo's but it became less personal.
Ryan, this game isn't FOR everyone, as is clearly stated on the kickstarter page. It's likely going to be like EQ where you just log out in a safe area. Even in EQ soloing was possible, it was just challenging as heck, and WAY more fun and personally rewarding. People today associate "casual" with "easy" and thats just not the case. Some days I put 6+ hours in EQ, some days I put 1 hour, some days I couldnt play. I never felt like I had nothing to do.
It's just this age of "I want, I want, give me, give me" type of player that has forced watered down content to where they can play the whole game by themselves with no fear of dying, no fear of losing any progress, no fear of getting in over their heads, no fear at all.
This game is not for those people.
@Ryan Chandler, They touched on this in Q&A 4.
By making what could effectively be called "save spots" inside dungeons, where you can log out and resume the next day, so you can split a 6-hour session into three 2-hour sessions for example.
I hope they can pull it off.
How is Pantheon going to balance some of the problems facing an aging MMORPG market. Most of the people this game is marketed to dont have the play time they once had. How are they going to balance casual progression with out watering down challenging content?
MY issue with down time is the ability to self sustain all the time. Oh, I drank some water and ate a biscuit, im magically healed to full health and mana.
I liked in ol' EQ you could heal yourself with bind wound, but you had to carry bandages around and couldnt bind over a certain % of your hp. The only ridiculous downtime in EQ IMO was mana regening, kill a mob, sit down for 5 mins.
I just dont want to see every class able to sustain themselves fully, as not only is it boring, but trivializes the need for other classes.
Nice video again. :D
Another good Q&A session. The more excitement Brad shows in these videos, the more we get excited! Thanks for posting this :)
