Kickstarter Redesign, Q&A vid #3, and Upcoming Lore

Good Monday all,

We're just a couple hours from week one of Pantheon finishing up and we're looking very much forward to week two. Your support throughout the first week has been tremendous in keeping this project on the right track. Your pledges, suggestions, and astounding dedication in helping get the word out has driven the entire team at Visionary Realms to put in even more effort in making this project a success.

Last night was the first major overhaul we've done on the site, and that was the result of your feedback. So let's take a look at some of the stuff that was redesigned.

Structural Redesign

We've moved some sections around a bit to make it easier to find what you're looking for. All of the new information and stuff just worth checking out is now at the top of the page.

Q&A Vid #3

The third of our videos where Brad answers questions directly from the community has been posted. These questions were taken prior to the Kickstarter having had launched, so please feel free to continue to send in your questions, post them, or contact one of the many awesome networks that are taking community questions for interviews that are happening with the team starting this week.

We will continue to work on ways to provide you with easy ways to get your questions answered throughout the campaign. This week we will be looking into setting up a reddit Ask-Me-Anything where Brad and the team will be available to answer you directly. Stay tuned for more information on when this is going down.

We've also gone through the entire Kickstarter page to make our points more concise and detailed.

Tier Rewards

Now easier-to-understand with our new chart and detailed explanations, the tiers have been tweaked to answer your questions. We've also added in a few new ones over the course of last week. Today is our first introduction of the Aesthetician pledge reward, which gets you almost all of the perks plus a signed, numbered, framed print of Nexus and Oranthel. These prints will be extremely limited and a great collector's item.

Revisited Stretch Goals

We've revamped our stretch goals in response to community demand. As mentioned last week, when we look at the stretch goals we want to make sure that they are realistic at their price points and placed appropriately within the priority list. We have received more feedback after this revisit, so we will continue to look at these goals throughout the campaign and continue to tweak them when it makes sense to do so.

Coming Up...

A bit later today you'll get to hear about Nexus. We're very excited to share this as she has a huge role in what's going on on Terminus. You'll find out more details on who she is and what it is she is doing. For those of you who were following our Twitter feed (@PantheonRotF) prior to the Kickstarter launch, you'll learn what she was going on about leading up to Monday's events.

And later this week we'll introduce you to two more classes, your role in Terminus, and a timeline of events that has led up to this point in Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen.

      Love what's going on here, but there is one thing that's keeping a lot of people away. PvP is a big point in many MMOs, as Brad said in the video, being done right is important, but I dont think balancing every class to be viable vs every class 1v1 in a group game is needed in pantheon. PvP adds a huge fun factor and danger factor to the game. I cant imagine Dark Souls without those darkwraith bastards coming in chasing me around the map.

      That' said, danger is an important thing to feel. As is the feeling that you're challenged. A lot of people dont know what that's like because they think if they die once, something is wrong. -Example;

      EQ 1999: I get killed by a mob. "^#&#! Well....what did I do wrong....hm...what can I do different next time, maybe I'll mem these spells instead....and next time I'll try to kite him a little, maybe use the tree..." Oh no, died again. "Okay....I'll try these spells, and maybe try to drag him up towards that rock...jump over it and use it to block him and make him keep pathing...YAY I KILLED HIM! I AM ALL THE IS IKSAR!" Major sense of accomplishment felt, I now know how to tackle that enemy, and I know how to use my abilities better.

      Current day MMO (WoW, Aion, SWTOR, take your pick) - I died to a mob. "OMG WTF THAT MOB IS OP. MY CLASS IS WEAK. IM GOING TO GO CRY ON THE FORUMS AND TELL THEM IM QUITTING!" - Learn nothing. Dont get better. Have no idea how to adapt your abilities to different situations. Devs actually listen to so much whining, nerf the mob, buff your class. Game is now ridiculously easy, no fun, you quit anyway.

      Truth is we want BOTH in, but we're also committed to making them well once they get started. As this initial Kickstarter is intended to get the studio up and running and bring in more people to get started on the core game, we're still open to more discussions on prioritization for features within the stretch goals. There have been some FANTASTIC suggestions on how we can get the funding levels needed so that each component gets its fair share of dedication, and we're not taking those suggestions lightly. Expect much more on the details of how we can accomplish all of our goals as we get closer to the stretches in funding.

      I have to agree with wanting crafting long before pvp. As a pve focused game, I think crafting fits with that gameplay style and provides additional gameplay incentives and promotes more player interactions when it comes time to sell your wares.

      If you think for a minute crafting/gathering/harvesting will be left out then I think you need to revisit some of the other projects this team has worked on in the past. Its vital to the game and the economy. I say just keep the info flowing its a great start and strat.

      Sounds good and @Ben Wilson: You are not alone. Look at the commands of the main page or some discussion at other places. Crafting is vital for many friends of this project. We will see. If voiced loud enough, it will get its place. If funded high enough, it certainly will ;)

      Hang on a second. Crafting and harvesting ISN'T part of the default core design and viewed with a hierarchical importance AFTER the huge undertaking of a viable PVP system... o.0

      PVP is always a massive undertaking which often clashes directly with PVE elements. Balancing lots of classes directly against each other one-on-one as well as group-v-group without any class being overpowered or unkillable and everyone being useful, that's gotta be a nightmare. I can understand that being a future consideration rather than a core aspect of the original concept and one which isn't necessarily absolutely required for a niche market. An MMO without crafting or resource gathering though... That just seems.....odd.

      Two aspects which really made VG stand far above other games in originality were crafting and diplomacy. Diplo was a non-core luxury addition to the genre, sure, but I was expecting a similarly novel approach to tradeskills in Pantheon. Not to mention something that can be done while alone waiting for regular adventurers to come online. That's without even considering the money sink aspect, and the equalisation between friends with differing amount of play time. Something on the agenda from the earliest drawing boards rather than a luxury to be looked at only once everything else is done.

      Even if you can't fully realise your dreams for crafting and resource gathering, I hope there's at least some system woven into the core design from the start. Djinn, pvp, houses, flight, even mounts - these are all options extras it'd be nice to have. A world without anvils or workbenches, trees to cut down or outcrops of iron to mine, it just seems there'd be something missing...

      Great changes! Any chance the "2nd" game copies that come with certain tiers will get the same in game cosmetic items as the main game copy for those tiers? Was planing on going to $100 for the second copy, but my wife will steal my cosmetic in game items if I do.

      A question i have is what happened to the air/water stretch goal ?
      Even though i don't really like the air one, i love being able to go under water in MMO and i'm sad those were simply removed... any news about that ?
