Jam Bakery was born in the summer of 2013. It began as a creative outlet. I was baking for family, friends, friends of friends- not seeking much in return. I was in love with my craft and to be given endless opportunities to learn and grow was exciting. It was a dreamy period- but this business model wasn't sustainable. I decided to put my Jam Bakery dreams on hold in order to regroup, reenergize, and travel.
Upon returning home a few months later, I found myself eager to get back into the kitchen- to begin creating- to bring life to Jam Bakery. I toyed with ideas, hemmed and hawed. I wanted Jam Bakery to be more than a home based business. I wanted Jam to be a business that gave me the chance to meet my neighbors, a business where community plays a vital role in its success. After much research, countless hours spent scouring the internet, and watching kickstarter videos for inspiration- it came to me. Jam Bakery would go mobile. I would take my sweets to the streets. To have this idea, that was simple. But to act on this idea, to make it a reality, that would take hard work.
This kickstarter campaign is to raise funds for me to move Jam Bakery into a mobile unit. A mobile bakery will allow me the opportunity to reach a greater audience with my goods. Connecting with my customers beyond emails and phone calls is very important to me as the own of Jam Bakery. I believe face-to-face relationships are the best relationships!
All of the baking for the mobile unit will take place at my home in Richmond, Vermont. All of the goods will be created using locally milled unbleached flour, Cabot butter, farm fresh eggs, and seasonal produce. Come March I will be applying to vend at http://artsriot.com weekly truck-stop. Beyond this weekly event I will be actively seeking out catering opportunities and Vermont food and music festivals to vend at.
The menu at Jam Bakery will change with the season. I will be sourcing a great deal of our ingredients from local farmers, as well as from our own bakery garden located in Richmond. We like to play and experiment with a range of ingredients and that will be evident in everything that we create. On a weekly basis, our offerings will include an assortment of cookies and bars. You will be able to purchase cake and pie by the slice at the area markets, and in full when ordering in advance. We will also offer our own homemade lemonade as well as iced tea. Ice cream will make a debut on the menu too either by the scoop or featured in ice cream sandwiches. Depending on our weekly location our menu may go on to include an assortment of breakfast pastries- scones, muffins, yeasted pastries.
The build-out of the vehicle will begin in March 2015. I will be purchasing the vehicle, all necessary supplies, and equipment throughout the winter, as well as solidifying my menu.
In order to make this dream a reality I need your help. The costs to build a mobile bakery from the ground up accrue quite fast. Below I have listed out exactly what I will need to purchase to move forward with this project. Many of the items require no explanation. Risks and challenges
This kickstarter campaign is the biggest risk Jam Bakery is taking. Not reaching our funding goal would not only delay Jam Bakery from going mobile, but stall it perhaps indefinitely. However, the support from family and friends goes above and beyond. We believe that we will not only meet our goal but surpass it entirely.
We are so very fortunate at Jam Bakery to be surrounded by creative hardworking beings. My mother has taken on the roll of accounting, my boyfriend will be heading up the renovations of the mobile unit, a close friend directed and filmed my video, another helped with my website construction. Through the help of others, our community, we are able to minimize some of the risks and challenges.
Like any food focused establishment- there are operational risks. How will competitors effect our businesses's success, uncertainty about prospective customers. As business owners, we don't always have control over such things. But we can adapt to fit the needs of our customers. Jam Bakery is always evolving to do so. It's a challenge that we accept. Jam Bakery is here because of you, we are here for you. We will work endlessly to find success and we hope we have your support in that journey.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
