The Team

Our team consists of David Chen, Eesa Hafezjee and Felix Wallis. We originally joined together to create Notify for our schools Young Enterprise Competition.  This competitive event involves the creation of business proposals by students who pitch it to a board of teachers. Two winners are chosen, which each receiving £500 of funding to further develop their idea.

We contemplated a variety of ideas, all of which had a variety of issues and seemed flat to us. One day David suddenly came up with a vision that was much closer to home; a revision application.  He shared with his idea with the team, and we collaborated to create what is now called Notify.

We began with writing and executing our first presentation which successfully led to us being nominated as one of two teams to win the Young Enterprise Competition and secure further funding. From this point, the over all interest in this app has been phenomenal.

After further development, we realised the great potential of Notify, and the need for more resources. Hence we pitched our concept to the John Carpenter Club,  and once again, we generated more interest and a further grant of £1000 to continue the development of our application.

We are now at the third and most interesting stage of development which can only happen if we can get the funding to fully evolve Notify and launch it onto the iOS app store.

This is where you come in. If you too want to join us on our journey to create and deliver this excellent educational tool which will take us into the future of advanced and enhanced revision tools, please help with as little or as great of financial support you are able to give.

The App

Notify is an application which greatly enhances the process of revision. From our recent experience of revising for GCSEs, we noticed a problem with the vast amount of education technology - repeatedly copying out handwritten notes into a digital format, to allow for any software based learning, is an archaic, time consuming and manual process. Using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning we are creating a solution. Machine Learning in conjunction with text recognition techniques will help our application provide three core functionalities to instantaneously augment typed and handwritten notes:

  •  Photo to notes: Using Notify, students will be able to take a picture of their notes and have them automatically formatted and saved as a digital copy, accessible from a smartphone.
  •  Fill in the blanks: Our application will then allows students to create ‘fill in the blank’ format questions from their notes, again by simply taking a picture.
  •  Photo to questions: Finally, we are developing Notify with the aim of allowing the application to automatically form questions based on the content of the user’s notes, requiring only an image to form comprehensive tests which can be answered on a smartphone.

These functions will enable the compiling, learning and testing of notes to be far more efficient, leading to more effective revision. While there is still work to be done, we think that our photo to questions functionality may have the potential to have a significant impact on a variety of forms of software-based learning. From our own personal experience as students, we believe this will culminate in greatly improved test results, and ultimately a more enjoyable and rewarding learning experience.

We aim to have this app in the IOS app store by September 1st 2019.

Notify does not need to be a replacement for handwriting notes if you find that method of revising useful. Instead, in this case, it can be used in together with analogue revision, to add variety and help solidify knowledge.

Why education?

Technology is allowing us to challenge the status quo in almost everything we do. From banking to music, industries have been re-imagined to be accessible from computers, tablets and smartphones. Yet, education and most notably revision within education has seemingly not yet been able to take advantage of this revolution. With Notify we seek to change this.

-With Notify we encourage students to work smarter, not harder.

Thanks from the Notify Team!

Risks and challenges

With any technological developments there are always issues that appear and hurdles we must overcome. However, with this project, we believe due to our extensive preparation that all the issues we may overcome have solutions, which we will be ready for. Hence, the only potential challenge is one of timing and meeting our deadline.
