By backing my project you can help shape the future of commuting!
You can help bring to market a lightweight, compact, intuitively folding electric bike that empowers commuters to get to the nearest bus stop or rail station, and, after commuting, to their office or school -- grease free and without a sweat.
You can also help me with the fun of finalizing the design of my folding e-bike. I'm looking for crowd-sourced input on options, configurations, colors, names and styles – be part of the product design / development process!
Want to be on the inside of live product design sessions? You'll have the opportunity to participate in live on-line planning meetings -- available to all $10+ backers!
I've tried to be inclusive and creative regarding pledge levels and rewards. You can help support me for as little as $1 and get your name on my website as a supporter. Or you can participate in crowd source designing of a t-shirt based on my e-bike, get an embroidered polo shirt, come to my launch party, or receive one of 100 numbered, limited edition folding e-bikes at a special pre-launch price of just $1395 with a full 2 year warranty.

Who am I?
I'm a designer passionate about sustainable mobility.
My goal is to change the way we move around cities.
My mission is to design sustainable mobility solutions that make the daily commuting experience enjoyable again.
And to provide an alternative to driving your car everyday that seamlessly ties into existing public transportation systems.
This folding e-bike has been my passion project since 2008: I've dedicated most of my nights and weekends for the past 2 years developing the design, in hopes of one day bringing this product to market. With your help we can help make it happen!
This project is about more than just about launching a product, it has become a tribute to my mother – an embodiment of my mother’s philosophy on life.
The essence of my mother’s life was movement. She was a dancer and a bicyclist.
She believed that movement is magic, and we simply need to be conscious of this gift.
My mother was a free spirit with a steadfast dedication to her bicycle, which earned her cult notoriety in the Chevy Chase DC area, and recognition by the Washington Post in a 2005 article, entitled, ‘Finding Liberation on Two Wheels: NW Bike Lovers Never Owned a Car”. This article and more can be found on my blog, dedicated to this project: http://karinsbike.wordpress.com/2011/04/19/from-2005-washington-post-article-finding-liberation-on-two-wheels/
We never had a car growing up: we lived our lives by bicycle. My parents took us to school on bikes, we went to the store and transported groceries by bike – we lived our lives by bike. This was rare at the time, especially in Washington, DC.
However, this helped shape my focus on urban mobility design.
Why am I doing this?
I want people to experience again the magic of the bicycle my mother lived by for most of her life. My design challenge was to design an e-bike that will enable commuters to re-acquaint themselves with the hidden magic that surrounds daily travel. An easy, fun way to get around. And I can't do it without you.
Where do you fit in?
Why do I need your help? I've worked on the design of my folding e-bike for almost two years. I've been working with professors at Art Center College of Design developing prototypes, and I need your help in taking my final prototype into full production. As you can imagine, manufacturing an e-bike isn't cheap! And I'm still paying off my college loans.
By supporting my project you will be part of a movement for positive change in the way we get from home to work – helping to provide a seamless way to utilize public transportation and lessen our dependence on single occupant automobiles.
If you elect to purchase my folding e-bike through this project and choose to use public transportation rather than commuting by car you’ll save approximately ten thousand dollars a year. According to the American Public Transportation Association’s monthly Transit Savings Report, individuals who ride public transportation save, on average, $9,968 annually and $831 per month.
You will feel better, and more connected to your community riding a bike -- light exercise reduces stress, and increases happiness. Stop and smell the flowers!
This folding e-bike will empower you to widen your commuting options -- you can augment public transit and carpooling with the help of a bike that can cover the gaps where both aforementioned models fall short.
Every dollar helps!
I’ve been funded through friends and family to date, but now I need your help, and every dollar counts! In fact, if you believe in what I’m doing and are tight on cash, for pledging just $1 or more you’ll get your name listed on my recently formed company’s web site as a contributor to my success! But don't forget to tell two friends and "Like" me on Facebook!
If you’d like to pre-order one of my first folding e-bikes you can pledge $1,395, which is below the cost of leading folding bikes that aren't electric. This special pre-release price is only available for pledges through Kickstarter. In addition to special pricing, you will get another pre-release offer -- a 2 year warranty! The electric hub motor only comes standard with a one-year warranty, but I'm doubling that for those who support me by pledging through Kickstarter.
Can you say "Launch Party"?
Pledge $100 or more and get an invitation to my "invitation only" official product launch party on the roof of the award-winning, LEED certified South Campus of Art Center College of Design. Pledge $175 or more for two tickets, because who wants to go to a party alone?
This will be a star-studded party -- guaranteed! In fact, I guarantee that there will be at least two Hollywood celebrities in attendance or I'll give you your pledge money for the launch party back. I can't announce who the Hollywood celebrities are now, but stay tuned, as I'll announce who they are as soon as commitments are finalized.
Can't come to LA? I'll commit to throwing a launch party in any city / metropolitan area where the cumulative pledges are over $25,000. I'll update you throughout my Kickstarter campaign regarding how many pledges have come in from each metropolitan area, so that you can get your friends and family to also pledge to get a party in your location!
I'll unveil my folding e-bike, provide food and drinks -- you bring yourself and a party attitude! Maybe we'll have some surprise guests -- stay tuned!
How will your donation be used?
My funding goal of $25,000 will allow me to get the minimum 100 unit production run going with my US-based frame manufacturer.
With your help through Kickstarter I’ll be able to move forward on bringing my e-bike to market.
Life after Kickstarter?
If I hit my funding goal, those who have pledged with be kept in constant communication until my folding e-bike ships.
Those of you who have pledged $10+ will be invited to product planning webinars where you will be able to participate in decision making -- the power of the crowd! We'll have fun and you'll get to help shape the final product.
