Yay, we're funded! Thank you everyone! Now we're aiming for stretch goals.

Our current stretch goal is: Sports Deck Mini-Expansion at $13,500.

Scroll down a bit to read more about our stretch goals, or continue reading to learn more about the game.

Who doesn’t love a good argument? Especially winning one! And now you can finally prove to your friends and family that you can win ANY argument, regardless of the topic, and which side you’re on.

Mindmade Games presents Debatable – a seriously silly party game for people who love to argue.

In Debatable all players are politicians taking turns debating both serious and silly topics. Two players are involved in each debate, and they’re either for or against the current topic. When the time is up the other players each cast a vote on the player they felt won the debate.

Of course you never enter a debate unprepared, and thankfully your brilliant and trusty strategic advisor has provided you with some clever debate strategies that will ensure your victory.

Before a debate you draw two random strategy cards without showing anyone else. The two strategies at the top of the cards become the two strategies that you MUST follow during the debate.

Debatable is a hilarious party game for 3 to 16 adult players. Playing time is approximately 30 to 120 minutes depending on the number of players, and most importantly, all players stay involved during the entire game.

Below you can read more about what’s included in the box, how to play the game, what the rewards are, which addons we offer, and of course more information about us. Happy reading!

And finally, Debatable will of course also contain a rules sheet, and everything will be packed in a beautiful box.

We don't really believe in Kickstarter Exclusive content that change how the core game works, however we still think it's nice to be able to offer something exclusive for those of you who believe in our idea at an early stage.

So, apart from the base game, we will also offer two ways to personalize your game, and make your copy of Debatable the only copy in existence.

You will at the end of the campaign receive a survey where you get to confirm your rewards and any addons you have selected, and of course detailed instructions for those of you who selected the Special or Personal Edition.

If you have any questions about the rewards, or how to order the the personalized versions of the game, don't hesitate to send us a message!

You get one copy of Debatable, which includes 1 hourglass, 93 topic cards (465 topics), 60 square strategy cards (240 strategies), 27 special cards, a box with beautiful artwork and a rules sheet.

If we hit our Social Media Goals below, you also get to help design the game by voting about what some of the cards in the game should contain.

ADDONS

Debatable is a fun gift, and we promise to deliver your game(s) before Christmas, so if you want more than one game please add $19 for each additional copy.

You get one copy of the Kickstarter Exclusive Special Edition of Debatable. So what's special about it? Glad you asked!

In Debatable the most commonly used cards in the game are the Moderator Card, the YES Card, and the NO Card. In the special edition of Debatable these cards will be extra large and made of durable plastic (they still fit inside the box).

Not only do they look cool, they are also virtually unbreakable no matter how many times you pass them around the table. Also, it doesn't matter what you spill on them, they can just be wiped off.

If you want, we will also add your name, your backer number, or any message you want, as part of the card design, making your version of the game one of a kind. Note that adding text is optional, and that you can choose to keep the cards clean as well.

To also personalize the artwork on these cards, please see the "Personal Edition" below.

ADDONS

Debatable is a fun gift, and we promise to deliver your game(s) before Christmas, so if you want more than one copy of the special edition, add $29 for each additional copy.

If you instead want to add additional regular versions of the game, add $19 for each copy.

You get everything in the Special Edition of Debatable, which includes three extra large and extra durable cards (that still fit inside the box). In addition, our illustrator Darko will also draw a cartoon version of YOU (or whoever you want) as the character on either the Moderator Card, the YES Card, or the NO Card. The illustration will be based on a reference photo you send us.

If you want, we will also add your name, your backer number, or any message you want, as part of the card design. You can choose to do this on all three cards, or if you prefer, only on the one containing an illustration of you.

Note that adding text is optional, and that you can choose to keep the cards clean as well.

ADDONS

If you add $25 to your pledge Darko will draw you AND someone else on two of the cards. For example the YES and NO Cards.

Add another $25 if you want to personalize all three cards.

If you want more than one copy of your personalized game, add $29 for each additional copy.

You get 10 copies of Debatable and you will be one of the first retailers to sell our game.

This reward is for retailers only. If you select this pledge we will ask for some sort of proof that you are a retailer.

Based on experience from our previous projects we feel very confident to welcome backers from all over the world, and we will offer FREE shipping to everyone living in Europe, USA, Canada Australia or New Zealand.

If you live somewhere else in the world we will kindly need to ask you for a small fee to cover additional shipping costs. We want to make sure your rewards arrive safely without any shipment or customs issues, and for some parts of the world this is unfortunately more costly, which we have learned during our previous projects.

Depending on how many backers we get we will either handle shipping ourselves, or use fulfilment services for different parts of the world. Regardless, we promise that we will handle ALL costs related to shipping and customs for backers in Europe, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

For the rest of the world the cost of shipping will never be more than $7, and any fees related to customs will be your responsibility. This has however never been a problem during our previous projects, so most likely you will not pay anything more than our shipping fee.

We believe in designing games with all the components they need from the start, so our stretch goals won't add more and more content to the game. Instead, we have added some stretch goals that will all increase the overall quality of the product without changing the game itself. If we get close to hitting the last one, we will add some more. One step at a time though!

Yay! We did it, we've raised enough money to be able to print Debatable. Thank you everyone!

The most economic box you can put a game in is a flimsy tuckbox. It does the job, until it usually falls apart one way or the other. We'd really like to put Debatable inside a much more sturdy 2-piece type of box, which will both look much better, and protect the game better.

There are 16 Voting Cards and 8 Under Pressure / I Am Out-Cards in the game, and they all look the same. That works fine, but it would be so much nicer if each of these cards had a unique character on them. It won't change the game, but it will be more fun if you get different characters on your cards when playing, and it would increase the overall production value.

In addition to creating unique characters on the above cards, we will also create male/female versions of the Moderator, YES, and NO cards. So, there will be a woman on one side of the cards, and a man on the other.

So in short, if we hit this stretch goal all cards in the game will have unique characters.

Black and white rules on standard paper will absolutely do the job, but Debatable is a game full of color, so it would be kind of sad if the rules were not in color. So if we hit this stretch goal we'll print the rules in color, and on fancier paper.

- Is Jar Jar Binks the best movie character ever?

- Was it right to give Bob Dylan the Nobel Prize?

- Is winter coming?

We're adding a downloadable print and play deck containing all our favorite topics to debate from the world of pop culture and entertainment.

- Is <player> the hottest player in the game?

- Is compulsory sterilization the best way to stop overpopulation?

- Is it true what they say about black men?

We're adding a downloadable print and play deck containing not safe for work topics aimed at adults. Topics in this deck are likely to be personal, sexy, or controversial. Or all three at once!

- Will Tiger Woods ever win another golf tournament?

- Is Tom Brady the best quarterback to ever play in the NFL?

- Should football (soccer) referees have access to instant replay?

We're adding a downloadable print and play deck containing all our favorite topics to debate from the world of sports.

But won't it be weird to mix in a deck of cards that you've printed yourself, together with the normal cards?

Not at all! If you want to play with for example the normal deck and the NSFW deck, you simply create two piles, and each round the Moderator can decide to draw a topic card from the normal deck OR the NSFW deck. Simple as that.

Early on in our campaign we were contacted by a woman from a library in a small town in Canada, who had spotted our game and thought it could be a fun addition to their library, and asked if we could donate two copies. And we thought, sure!

And then we thought, wouldn't this be a pretty fun social media goal too? Our backers get involved, we get some likes and followers, and a few locations around the world get free games. Win-win-win!:)

So, for each of the 12 social media goals below that we reach, we will:

Donate 1 copy of Debatable to a suitable place, like a library, a school, or similar.

So what’s a suitable place? Well, that’s where you come in. Please send over ideas of places you think would enjoy a free copy of Debatable. Comment on the project, send us a PM here on Kickstarter, or send us your ideas through Facebook or Twitter.

And of course, don't forget to like and follow us Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, so we can reach as many goals as possible:

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MindmadeGames

Twitter: @MindmadeGames https://twitter.com/MindmadeGames

Instagram: @MindmadeGames https://www.instagram.com/MindmadeGames

These social media goals will be available until the end of the campaign, and should we reach 200 likes or followers in a category we'll add a new goals at 250, 300, and so on.

The Topic Cards and Strategy Cards are shuffled to create two piles, then each player receives two Voting Cards.

A random player is chosen to be the Moderator for the first round, and receives the Moderator Card

The Moderator draws a topic card which contains 5 different topics to debate, and selects 1 of them.

The Moderator then selects two players who they want to see debate the selected topic, and gives one player the YES Card, and the other player the NO Card.

Before the debate starts both players turn over their strategy cards and read them without telling anyone else. The strategy cards all contain different strategies that the debating players MUST use while trying to win the debate.

The cards are all square-shaped, so your strategies will depend on which way you pick up your two cards. You are not allowed to rotate them afterwards, but must use the strategies that end up on top of each card.

This card design, with 60 square cards containing 4 strategies each means there’s over 25,000 different strategy combinations. So it’s unlikely you’ll ever get exactly the same combination no matter how many times you play.

Now, the Moderator turns over the hourglass and the debate starts. The two players do their best to win the debate while trying to overcome the, most likely silly, strategies they have on their cards. This will of course create a hilarious debate, regardless of how serious the topic is.

The Moderator’s job is to make sure both players get to talk and is also allowed to ask questions if needed to keep the debate going. In short, the Moderator makes sure the debate is fair and that it does not stall.

When the time is up, the Moderator first allows each side one short final statement, before it's time for questions! Now, all other players in the game are allowed to ask one question each, that the debating players will have to answer to the best of their abilities, while sticking to their strategies of course. Finally, the debating players reveal their strategies.

To end the round, all non-debating players, including the Moderator, votes on who they think won the argument, regardless of their own personal opinions about the actual topic.

Each player selects either their Vote NO or Vote YES card, and places their chosen card face down in front of them.

This way nobody can be influenced by how someone else voted. When everyone has placed their voting cards, they turn them over one by one and the score is calculated.

The player who won the debate is safe, while the loser receives an Under Pressure Card.

Having this card means that if you lose another debate, you’re out of the game. The loser of a debate also becomes the Moderator for the next round and gets to select a new topic and the two players who will debate it.

Keep playing rounds until a player who has an Under Pressure Card loses a debate. When that happens that player turns over their Under Pressure Card, which now shows “You’re Out”, meaning they’re out of the game.

But being out of the game is actually also kind of fun! Because, from now on, the Moderator role will pass in clockwise order between the eliminated players. This means even players who have lost stay involved in the game until the end, and of course even if you’re out you still get to ask questions and vote each round.

Eventually only one player will remain standing, and will be declared the Debate King or Queen, meaning everyone must give them a bow of respect. If you decide to play another game, the Debate King or Queen’s reward is to be the Moderator for the first round in the new game.

The main portion of the money we receive will be used to print the game

Also, since we’re Swedish we want to be able to pay our trusty proofreader / editor Karin to make sure everything in the game is written in flawless English. She's 100% American, lives in New York, and she's awesome at Englishifying (yes, that's a word) our games.

Should we hit our minimum goal we have also have a number of stretch goals that will improve the quality of the final product. In order not to jinx it, we will not announce stretch goals until after we, hopefully, have reached our minimum funding goal.

Mindmade Games is Magnus and Elin Holmgren. We live just outside Stockholm, Sweden. We’re in our mid-30s and we’ve been glued to each other since 2002, and last year we finally got married.

About two years ago we started a game company called Tingletouch Games that creates sexy and romantic games for couples. We’ve run three successful Kickstarter campaigns for our first three games, Bedroom Battle, Dare Duel and Luck & Love.

We’ve now decided to become full-time game designers, so we’re expanding our business by starting up Mindmade Games, where we will create fun games that everyone can play.

Elin is a former restaurant manager who knows how to run a business and Magnus has previously worked as a film editor and graphic designer, but most importantly we both love playing games. Everything from fun simple card games to serious strategic board games. Magnus’ all time favorite board game is Agricola, while Elin’s vote goes to Puerto Rico right now. But that can of course change at any time.

The three other members of the team for Debatable are:

Carolyn Comer - Carolyn is our fun-loving friend from Texas who will help us out with promoting the game in the US.

Darko Krgovic - A really talented illustrator from Serbia who will design all the fun characters on the cards in the game. And if you pick the "Personal Edition" he will happily draw YOU as one of the characters.

Karin Kohlmeier - Our trusty American editor / proofreader who makes sure all the text in the game is typo-free and grammatically correct.

Yes, totally. We’ve run three successful Kickstarter campaigns

We’ve produced and delivered our first two games, while our third game is in the final stages of production.

We’ve learned a lot, and we can actually say that we know what we are doing now. But don't take our word for it, feel free to use the links below to check out previous games and campaigns.

Risks and challenges

We have gone through the entire process of running a Kickstarter campaign, creating a game, and delivering it. Twice! (Soon three times) And we’ve learned a lot on the way. Of course every new project will have new challenges, but we feel we have enough experience to overcome whatever challenges this project has in store for us. We know what we need to do, who to work with, and some of the many pitfalls to avoid. Unless there is some type of natural disaster or similar, you will get your game!

Finally, don’t hesitate to ask any questions you want about our project and we’ll reply as quickly as we can.

Thank you for reading all the way here!
