Old Lazarus' Harp is recording their first ever Christmas/Yuletide compilation album! All CD's ship with a code to download the digital tracks.
Old Lazarus' Harp is a collective of some of the best young traditional folk musicians in Chicago. OLH features a range of local Chicago acts and celebrates a wide spectrum of traditional music styles--old-time, Irish, bluegrass, cajun and more. The collective is redefining the folk experience in Chicago through independent concerts, jams, hootenannies, square dances, and the Maypole Folk Festival.
Some of the musicians:
Spitzer & Mareva are a fierce vocal duo with a deep repertoire of sea shanties and ballads of the British Isles. Spitzer Space Telescope’s wild booming energy joined with Mareva Lindo’s formidable contralto echo the powerful arrangements of The Watersons and The Young Tradition. http://sstandmareva.com
The Cat Wranglers
Glass Mountain is Heather Malyuk, Sara Leginsky and Ari Bolles. Inspired by a love of old-time and early country, the women of Glass Mountain make music that captures the grit and beauty of the American folk tradition. Their shows have the raw, spontaneous energy of a jam and the soulful intent of a gospel hymn.
Can I Get An Amen
Lightning-blooded four-piece Can I Get An Amen has long held a reputation as the wildest, whiskey-est string band in the city of Chicago. Steeped in American old-time fiddle tunes and songs, CIGAA breathes ferocious life into traditional music. http://www.canigetanamenband.com/
Tee Claw & Bridget Esterhuizen
Multi-instrumentalists and honky-tonkers Tee and Bridget play a mix of country music and American fiddle tunes. When not playing or dancing, T-Claw calls square dances around the country, and Bridget is a Chicago theater actor.
Patrik Ahlberg is a Swedish native, fiddle player, multi-instrumentalist, and violin maker now living in Chicago.
Anne, Emily & Mareva
Singers and multi-instrumentalists Anne Beal, Emily Nott and Mareva Lindo are drawn together by a love of murder ballads, fiddle tunes and blues, old and new.
Chris Kimmons & Sarah Green
Sarah Green and Chris Kimmons are peaceful centaurs of the nonmagical variety. They reside in a pine forest and enjoy gathering seeds and berries for the winter.
Risks and challenges
There certainly is a lot that goes into according an album.
We need to allocate the funds for studio time, as well as mastering, and producing CD’s.
A huge thanks to all the participating musicians and groups for making the time in their busy schedules to create this together!
