“Be the change you want to see in the World” – Mohandas Gahndi
ECDC is an eco-friendly activewear brand that uses bamboo to create a high-performance t-shirt. The technologies of this new bamboo t-shirt design are guaranteed to keep you dry and odorless during those high-intensity workouts for athletes and those gym goers who are looking for a comfortable everyday activewear.
What’s built into every thread of fabric used to create ECDC is our underlying mission of providing sporting opportunities to underprivileged children in select schools in Uganda and South Africa, where we’ve strategically partnered with credible non-profit organizations on the ground to assist us. As a way to solve this injustice for children in some of the most impoverished communities of Africa, for every shirt purchased through ECDC, we will provide a soccer ball to a specific school in Africa. Our long-term goal is to provide sporting equipment as well as hire local and international coaches to create a long-term sustainable program that will continue to grow and impact millions of children.
Another key reason for our choice in material is because of its eco-friendly relationship with the Earth. Bamboo is sustainable, renewable, vegan, and a plant-based material. It requires 1/3 less water than cotton and does not require any pesticides or chemicals to grow. This also aids us in our mission to provide a clean and safe world for generations to come.
My name is Jaz Shergill and I’m a former professional ball player for ABL and CANAM Leagues. I’ve never known anything different. I grew up on the mound and honestly have no idea where I would be without Sport. I’ve never been more passionate about anything other than baseball, until I was invited to South Africa, where I spent 13 months as a sports and life coach with the non-profit organization known as Play Sport 4 Life. This amazing organization focused on providing sporting equipment, educating and hiring coaches, and building facilities in poverty-stricken communities that are dominated by homelessness and gangsterism.
I never knew that something I loved so much was only a ‘dream’ for these children. Through this life-changing year on the ground in S. Africa, I realized that playing ball is a privilege for only a select few, but have now made it my life’s mission to provide this basic human right to these children in Africa.
Early on in my experience I realized that many of the children were not given many of life’s basic necessities that many people take for granted. On many occasions the children came to the fields without shoes, but that didn't stop them from running through the thorn covered fields to play sports.
We had some kids go from not even knowing what baseball was, to representing their country at the national level in under 12 months! It was a truly life changing experience and I found myself thinking about what else these children may be capable of achieving if they were actually given a chance.
Went from a stranger to a lover of the game. Went from a stranger to a lover of the game. These experiences created a burning desire to do more and now I’m on a mission to provide as many children with the chance at a better life through sports, but knew I wouldn’t be able to do it on my own.
CO-FOUNDER ON THE GROUND IN AFRICA
"Do you know what my favorite part of the game is? The opportunity to play. "
- Co-Founder Connor Walsh
Baseball has led me to a position, where I have witnessed and experienced firsthand, how not everyone in the world has an equal opportunity to play a sport.
As a co-founder of ECDC it just made sense to partner with The Play Sports 4 Life organization because it aligns so closely with our ECDC values of helping to provide an opportunity for children in Africa through sport!
We also believe in the mission of Play Sports 4 Life and the positive impact we've seen first hand that this program has in a child's life. We are confident that the funds donated by ECDC will be able to provide sporting opportunities to thousands of children in Africa who otherwise would not have had the opportunity.
I'm blessed to be in South Africa on the ground, working with Play Sport4Life. This allows me to assess and identify the sporting equipment needs of children in Africa as well as the coaching needs for staff.
I have come to understand that playing sport is not a privilege, but a human right. I believe with all of my heart and soul that Every Child Deserves a Chance to Play Sport4Life.
