This crowdfund campaign is raising money to get the tarot cards I have designed printed and out into the world, where you will be able to explore new concepts and regions.
Bisbee Tarot Deck
About 3 years ago I decided I wanted to start developing my own Tarot deck. At the time I was in the southwest and used the tarot as a lens to explore the geography and community.
The backdrop of this deck of tarot cards is filled with sweeping vistas of the southwest. The graphics are influenced by the Rider-Waite-Smith deck with twists inspired by the local community. The deck is also filled with humorous and homoerotic undertones.
This deck is also approachable to the novice as I used iconic characters and people to create the court and major cards.
I am currently working on an Astroherbology deck. It takes the concepts of astrology and herbalism and fits them into the template of the tarot. Each card has the concept of the traditional tarot meaning, but I have added layers.
Inspired by the astrology connections of the early 20th century Aleister Crowly, each card has a zodiac or planetary influence. I used the research of Nicholas Culpeper from the 17th century to find herbs that were ruled by the zodiac or planets that either enhanced or countered the cards' meaning. I then tied that into the zodiac infused tarot cards.
The imagery of these cards have a loose 17th century theme. The connections to these three concepts and imagery make them a unique deck of cards, creating a wonderful addition to any tarot collection. The imagery and information also make this a coffee table-type deck, that can be left out to flip through. This is a lovely deck to casually learn from and open up conversations.
Most of the budget will be going to printing these decks and shipping them out to you. the rest of the cost will cover tools, research, and editing. Also a fraction of of the campaign will pay me the artist!
Risks and challenges
The Bisbee Tarot deck is ready for printing right now. the Astroherbology deck is very close to completion. I plan to have the cards completed and ready for the printer by April 30th. It would take about two weeks to get the cards printed and another week to ship to me, then I will begin shipping them out to you. I would expect you to have the cards in your hands by the last week of May if everything moves smoothly.
Unforeseen things do happen that can delay the process. I will keep people updated here on this campaign along with on my website and Instagram. I will also email backers with updates.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
