Hey Earthlings! We’ve got some BIG things happening this week. And I mean like… EARL BIG! Feel me?

So first and foremost... We were going to wait on this buuuut... We are over-joyed to finally open up this mystery present and give you an official release date!

It is our absolute pleasure to announce that ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove! will be launching for Steam, Nintendo Switch, Playstation4, and Xbox One on March 1st, 2019. It's Official!!

In other news, we've published a post on Playstation.Blog that we think you should check out! It’s the first place you’ll get to see our all new gameplay trailer -- It’s Jammin’!

We’ve also taken this blog post as an opportunity to open pre-order purchases for ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove! through the Playstation Store! (it's taking a little while for pre-orders to live, so please save it to your "wishlist" in the meantime). We’re super thrilled for this and it means we’re one step closer to having this game out into the world. Make sure to tell all those PS4 owners out there wassup!

In addition to today’s PS4 pre-order, we also have more Toejam & Earl funkiness coming your way this Saturday, Dec. 8th, at the Kinda Funny Game Showcase. We’ll be unveiling a new animated trailer with the help of a good friend of ours - who could it beeee? Keep an eye out! on December 8th at 10am PST.

Now… With all of this talk of consoles, I’m sure you all are still wondering if we’ll allow you to switch your PC copies of Back in the Groove to your console platform of choice… Well… here goes…

OH YES! Starting next week, a new round of Backer surveys will be emailed out, which will give you an opportunity to swap your PC/Mac copies of Back in the Groove to PS4, Xbox 1, or Nintendo Switch for an addition $5. Getting these console codes was - and is - very complicated and we’ll only be able to offer this once. So make sure you don’t miss it! This survey will also give you a chance to update your shipping information if that still pertains to you.

And that’s it for now! We’ll have another update coming out this Saturday to accompany our Kinda Funny presence. We’ll see ya then!

PS. If you haven’t already, make sure to tune into Toejam & Earl TV every Tuesday and Friday at 4pm PST. Come join us at:

What about those of us who pledged at level that got extra copies of the game? e.g my reward states; Two extra copies of The Game (three copies total) (PC, MAC, or Linux) Can I not choose which platform I want to sacrifice for a console code? i.e MAC and keep the PC? What about those who pledged extra for a Boxed PC version of the game? Do we still get that if we take a console code?

Great news! I want to swap to PS4!
Wish you guys good luck on sales numbers! It’s becoming a great launch :-)

Absolutely stoked for this news. I backed for PC originally, but the Switch has fast become by favourite gaming platform, especially since I now have an infant daughter and can't settle in for long gaming sessions any more. Being able to trade up to the Switch means I can pick up and play whenever I get five minutes. :)

      > If you backed and PC or Mac is your platform of choice

I backed Linux as my platform of choice and I'm concerned that now you seem to have forgotten us?

Yay a release date! I can't wait! I really wish I didn't have to wait so many extra months for console bugs and console release requirements but I'm glad its finally going to happen.

    6. Jeroen on

Thank you for the opportunity to change to a console version! :D

That's awesome guys, I will totally pay for the opportunity to switch to Switch. Get it? GET IT!

You guys are legends man! I’m super pumped for this! Cheers for being with us every step of the way and taking our feedback on board. I couldn’t have asked for better contributors to the project!! Cheers for working out the go around with the consoles too! I look forward to swapping one, when I get my next survey. Cheers. Stay Funky!! ❤️❤️

      @Iron Curtain (Chiptunes)
Blootstained simply put was badly managed by all the companies involved (and we talk about a lot of companies for such a small game). Change of plans, negated rewards and poor communication didn't help either.
The circumstances couldn't be less similar.
Here we don't have the same issues. It shows that delays aren't usually the main reasons people complain and that trust is an important thing to nurture.

    10. Iron Curtain (Chiptunes) on

I just love how positive, patient, and excited the backer community is here compared to the one for Bloodstained, where everyone is [chanting] "Where's my game!?! Where's my game!?! Where's my game!?!"

The circumstances are similar for both kickstarter projects, so I could tell that the TJ&E community is better, generally speaking.

You guys rock! I'm super pumped about being able to redeem for the Switch; I'm more than happy to throw in a few extra bones for it. Thanks for all the extra effort to make that happen! It's greatly appreciated.

    12. Mark Tyler on

Oooh also (just read the Sony blog post) will the TJ&E dynamic theme be available to purchase separately or only as a pre-order bonus? ^_^

    13. Mark Tyler on

Woohoo! So excited to play your new masterpiece ^_^

In regards to the $5 console swap: Does that allow us to update our physical collector's edition from a PC/Mac version to a console version or only our digital code?

Also, if we backed for multiple copies and were willing to pay a fiver for each, could we potentially change each copy to a different console (ie: 2 PC copies becomes a PS4 copy and a Switch copy)?

    14. Kevin Bruckert

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!!!! (Not really, but I'm all over the limited run Switch physical copies... I'll probably be buying 6. Got a lot of friends I need to play with!!!)

      @Humanature Studios
      Some questions/suggestions:
      - How the drm-free version will be delivered on pc? Do you plan a GOG release or to provide it on Humble Store? It would be good to have both Steam and drm-free options just to be safe.
      - Will we be able to unlock contents on multiple copies if we backed for more than one?
      - How are you going to unlock contents on the drm-free version? It is not linked to an account so it cannot check if that content is owned.

Regarding the last two points I have a suggestion as I saw those problems and requests on other projects. A good way to unlock content could be to have an unlock code, coded into the game. It is usually an hash value (for instance an hash of the backer mail address). This method is platform agnostic and also works on multiple copies. The only downside is that if the code is shared it lose its exclusivity (that's why to discourage sharing a mail address is usually used).

Hey all! I'll try to get to as many of you as I can. Bare with me...

@Ivan - We're telling y'all about the release date, more as a point of reference and a finalization that this game will be in your hands no later than March 1st. That being said, we'd ideally like to start sending out backer codes roughly a week ahead of release.

@Jonathan - If you haven't receive your rewards and you haven't received a reply to any inquires to that effect, that's on me and I apologize. We all juggle many jobs here at the studio, but that's no good excuse for dropping the ball. Please email me at

@Gresh - Sorry this project has taken so long. It's been a bit of a roller coaster, for a number of reasons. But ultimately, our goal was to give you Greg's true vision of what a conclusive TJ&E sequel could be. That meant making sure we got everything in that we felt needed to be there, as well as making sure that it ran as well as it needed to.

@Mark - thanks for the input. For the most part, I'll agree, that's how KS projects tend to function. We've delayed enough times now though that I think it's only fair to try and distribute backer codes a bit ahead of schedule. TBD

@Robert - Nothing more to announce on the Limited Run front just yet. Although we hope to have news by early January.

@Miguel - Good question! Yes, the plan is to distribute redeemable codes that will unlock that in-game feature.

@Tom - You're all set! If you backed and PC or Mac is your platform of choice, no need to change that. You'll get your Mac copy for sure.

      And finally

Thank you all for being so positive! We've elated by how excited you are to play our funky game. And we can't wait for you to have it in your hands.

Will this account for multiple pc/mac codes as some of the levels provided multiple copies of the game?

    18. Timothy Oldani on

Best news I’ve heard this year - what great Holiday Surprise!!!

    19. Tom Petaccia on

Actually .. I would prefer the Mac version I was promised when I contributed three years ago .. since I don't do consoles. Am I just SOL?

    20. Miguel Martínez on

Good to know! One question, how are we going to get access to Peabo's In-Game Surprise Feature? Are you guys going to send codes or something?

    21. Tiffany Lewis on

    22. Robert Petersen

Any word on physical Nintendo Switch copies through Limited Run?

    23. Mark Shaskey

Ivan, I don't think any of the video games I've back on KS have been delivered before normal retail release unless you back an alpha or beta phase. I've just seen it as a bit of a discount and / or some kind of in game perks versus buying retail. Happy to see this one come to a conclusion.

    24. Greshmahg on

This one fell WAY off the development schedule, but for a piece of my childhood, I guess I can be OK with waiting.
