Derby has had a miserable few years. Walking past the dormant waterfall or the unnecessary metal rings or the empty shops day after day is a grueling reminder of what our City is/was capable of.
The Market Hall is no different, and those of us who own businesses inside have had to accept systematic closures that have not helped with footfall.
We want to do something to bring a little joy and happiness to the City and Market that we love. We want to do something unusual but joyous, something that will give the people of Derby a distraction from the hard times we're all enduring. We want to bring the highest concentration of optimism and positivity we can in the form of a person. The only person capable of putting a smile on everybody, no matter their age. We want to bring Timmy Mallet to the Market Hall.
For those of you who are too young (or too old) to know of Timmy Mallet, Timmy Mallett is an English TV presenter, broadcaster, and artist. He is known for his striking visual style, colorful glasses, loud shirts, and giant pink foam mallet, known as "Mallett's Mallet", as well as his "utterly brilliant!" and "blaaah!" catchphrases. He was one of the most famous faces on Children's TV during the 80's and 90's, and continues to appear on TV to this day, most notably in 'I'm A Celebrity' in 2008.
Timmy will be providing free meet-and-greets and autographs to anyone who wants one. We've set up a few perks and rewards to those who contribute to making this unique and slightly unusual event happen.
Risks and challenges
Timmy's agent has already okayed Timmy Mallet appearing at the Derby Market Hall. However, the date is yet to be confirmed but we have pretty much the entirety of Summer to choose from so we will aim for a Saturday in July.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
