About this project
The Treasure of Garbanzo Pass is a modern Western action-comedy about betrayal and friendship. It is a cross between The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, Airplane!, and Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. This is the story of three friends who discover the location of lost Confederate gold and are catapulted into an adventure beyond imagination.
Sam - A ladies' man who is less than he seems.
John - A nerd with a dark secret.
Stacey - An awkward girl failing to live up to her parent's expectations
All three want to take the treasure for themselves, but they soon find that if they want to survive they are going to have to work together. They'll face Mexican cartel members, brave off-brand Twinky acid trips, battle thieving Indians (it's an all girl's school whose mascot is an Indian. They're trying to have it changed), and endure the unending heat of the New Mexican desert, all in search of
The Treasure of Garbanzo Pass
Zach Moore is the writer and director of Garbanzo Pass. He has written and directed several short films before this one (watch them here).
We all go to school at the Santa Fe University of Art and Design. Inspired by the epic surroundings of New Mexico, we decided to write a modern Western. We're going to film it this spring in and around the Sant Fe area, and we need your help. This is the movie that you always wanted to exist, but you could never find it on Netflix. It will make your day a little brighter every time you watch it. It will cure all diseases (FULL DISCLOSURE: this movie will not cure any diseases).
For motivation, check out our latest projects:
The budget for this film? $100. Now just imagine what we could do with $10,000.
Here's another example:
Also, our film will be the first feature film to be shot with the Digital Bolex D16, which is pretty cool.
Only you can make The Treasure of Garbanzo Pass a reality. All you have to do is donate.
Can't donate? Then you can still help! Just share this page with all of your friends, family members, and wealthy aunts or uncles!
Risks and challenges
We are making a movie, and filmmaking is a cruel mistress. I have no doubt that there will be setbacks that need to be worked around and issues that will need to be dealt with. That is the very nature of making a film. I also have no doubt in our team's ability to face those challenges and overcome them; it is often the case that challenges in making a film end up making a film better.
Here's a specific example: in our previous short film (shown above), there was a scene where Jebediah faces off with some of Veronica's henchmen. Unfortunately, all our batteries died halfway through the the first day of filming, so we had to cut that scene for time. That challenge made me realize that the scene was unnecessary, and by cutting it, the film was faster paced more effective (also, we all learned a valuable lesson about bringing lots of backup batteries when filming out in the desert).
I know there will be similar problems to work through for this movie, and I look forward to them, because I know that we will learn from them and our movie will be stronger for it. To all of our backers, I promise that, no matter what it takes, we will finish The Treasure of Garbanzo Pss.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
