Finishing Up Fulfillment!

Hello darlings! Your faithful friends at Locust Moon here, with another update on the fulfillment process for THE LOST WORK OF WILL EISNER.

We're almost done! We've send out rewards packages to well over 95% of our 1,116 backers, and we're so pleased at the terrific response we've received. We've been getting beautifully insightful responses from so many of you, and corresponding with you about Eisner and this fascinating work has been one of the most enriching parts of this process. We love seeing you post proud pics of the book you made possible all over social media. The community that's sprung up around this material has been so lovely and inspiring.

So! Down to business. We have now fulfilled everything except the following:

* Certain packages including the Rob Berry Dreamer print.
* Original art packages including the Comey and Sgier sketches and the original Berry portrait.
* Packages including the original 1930s zinc printing plates.

In other words, if you aren't expecting a printing plate, a piece of original art, or a Rob Berry print, your book should be in your hands by now. If it's not, and if you haven't received a tracking number, send us a direct message (please don't comment on this update -- it's easier to keep track of messages when they're all in one place) and we'll figure out what's up.

We're still waiting on a couple of small remaining things, like the sketch pieces, but we fully expect to send everything out and reach 100% fulfillment within the next two weeks.

Anyway -- please keep tweeting, tumbling, blogging, singing and shouting about this exciting project that you made possible. We're doing great work together to honor the legacy of one of the greatest cartoonists of all time.

And track us down at SPX! Table M12. We would love to see you at the best comix party of the year.

XOXOXO,

Josh O'Neill, for Andrew Carl and Chris Stevens

      By the way, Fotios -- sorry we missed your comment earlier!

      Thanks for your input on the book! We did use a very high quality paper stock -- uncoated 100# wood-free paper. Cream color may have been very nice! But that's really an aesthetic concern.

      The choice of paper also affects the appearance of the ink. The uncoated paper we chose because it was somewhat similar in texture to the newsprint that these strips would have been originally printed on. Ink on coated paper tends to pop more, while it soaks into uncoated paper. We liked the latter more for the vintage look of this book, but your mileage may vary.

      Lastly, you're not wrong about some loss of fidelity on the prints -- though honestly, I think that's on us, not our printer. This was an unusual project for us, reproducing these images from 1930s printing plates, and we did the best we could with the equipment we had! Some of the plates were not in perfect condition either. But the criticism is well taken, and we'll strive to do better in the future.

      Either way -- hope you're enjoying the book, and thanks again for your support!

      Thanks Jason for figuring that out and posting it. I just followed your instructions and I've received the same message. I'm glad to know my book isn't lost.

      @Jason: we just responded to your message!
      @Al, Alexandra, Yvonne, Tor: messaged!
      @everyone else: THANK YOU!
      Last night and this morning, we've gone through every backer's shipment and tracking record with a fine-toothed comb and found a handful that either didn't go out for one reason or another, or did but have been stalled in the USPS system somewhere. We'll be shipping out the outliers ASAP and hounding the US Postal Service for answers & solutions all week.

      Here's how to send them a message. I finally figured it out and got a reply. And by the way, Kickstarter deserves a lot of criticism for making this as difficult as it is. Anyway, after you sign in on the top right you will see a blue circle to the right of the looking glass symbol. The circle looks like what is next to some of our names in the comments below. Left click on that blue circle at the top of the page and it will pull up a menu and you need to click next on Messages. Assuming you haven't cleaned things up, you should have at least 2 messages from Locust Moon Press. Pick one to read and there is an option for Reply. Use that Reply option and they'll get the message. They told me that their message was premature and I am among the people they actually still haven't mailed books to even though I don't fit into one of the categories they said that was all that was left. They told me I'll get my book soon.

      I don't have the book yet and I have absolutely no idea at all how to possibly message any of you, nor am I the only one who can;t figure that out.

      Congratulations on this project, it was definitely worth backing and I enjoyed having access to Eisner work I had never had the privilege of seeing before! I do have some recommendations for future work, which I think something like this could have benefited. Firstly, a much higher quality paper stock, perhaps even off-white in chroma to give the book a fine Library texture. Secondly, (and as a printmaker myself, I appreciate exactly how tasking it was to reprint every plate of the collection) however, there was some serious line fidelity loss in the reproduction of the comic strips. The black ink used was not vibrant or dark enough either, thus flattening our the artwork tremendously. This also affected the text, making it less than pleasant to read. Next time I hope you can find a higher quality printer. But overall, for a first effort, the result was fantastic and I look forward to your future endeavors.
