IMPORTANT NOTE: When I started this campaign, I set the initial goal at just $500, which was the bare-minimum it was going to take to make this happen.... We surpassed that goal on 7/28, but we hope that friends, fans and supporters will continue to contribute to this Kickstarter project, as we want to do all we can to further Chadd's musical legacy! The additional funding will mean that more copies of the "Unfinished Business" CD can be pressed & distributed, and that we can reach so many more people, press outlets, radio stations, and more with Chadd's final studio recordings! The Thomas family and I appreciate everyone's support more than I can properly express! Thank you, and keep spreading the word! <3
When fast-rising and much-beloved Austin Rockabilly star Chadd Thomas was murdered in July 2011, it brought his musical journey to a tragic end.... He and his band, The Crazy Kings, were one of South Texas' hardest working combos, and the shining stars of the roots/rockabilly scene. As plentiful as their live shows were, it was thought that the CDs and 45s that he sold from the bandstands were the sum-total of his recordings.... NOT SO!
Even Chadd's studio recordings turned out to be as prolific as his gigs. Thomas had a small "treasure chest" of yet-to-be-released studio recordings that he sent to his mom and sister in the months before his passing. These tracks (11 of them in total) are not-at-all "studio outtakes", but rather some of the finest, rock-boppin' rockabilly sides of his career. There are minimal overdubs & mixing, giving these tracks the fiery feel that one would get seeing Chadd Thomas & The Crazy Kings "live" on any red-hot Saturday night!
The goal of this Kickstarter campaign is to fund the packaging for this fabulous final CD release by the late, great Chadd Thomas. There will also be a CD Release & Memorial Show held in Austin, Texas on August 18, 2012. This campaign will also fund a Limited Edition Poster for that show, a run of commemorative/promo postcards, and a Chadd Thomas Memorial Trading Card (which will have info on the back about the yet-unsolved murder, and contact numbers to call in tips about the crime).
This is all being done for and in-conjunction with Chadd's family, and any additional contributions raised over and above the goal will go to them, to assist in the wider release of Thomas' "Unfinished Business" CD and the documenting of the life & career of this true Texas Rockabilly King!
Full details about the upcoming "Unfinished Business" CD Release Show, and other updates will be posted at www.Facebook.com/AtomicJukeboxDotCom. Thank you all in advance for helping to bring this labor of love to fruition, and for spreading Chadd's musical magic to an even wider audience!
Everything raised over the cost of printing/shipping of the items described will go to the Thomas family, and to the wider release of Chadd's "Unfinished Business" CD.
These will be standard baseball card-sized trading cards featuring Chadd & a brief bio, but will also include (on the back) a short paragraph about his murder, along with tipline numbers for the Austin Police Department and Crimestoppers.... We will circulate 5000 of these cards, in hopes that they will end up in the hands of anyone who might have information that will lead to solving Chadd's murder.
If this campaign really explodes, and we get enough contributions over-and-above the goal, there is a very good chance that a vinyl 45 will be put out as well! Again, it depends greatly on this campaign doing VERY well.
