WHAT IS MCMEEKIN FINDS OUT?
McMeekin Finds Out looks in on the McMeekin Family during a seemingly uneventful Sunday morning. Heads of household Guy and Pam are recovering from a car wreck which has left Guy’s hands, and Pam’s legs, in casts. Stuck at home since the event, both have begun to tire of the other (especially since Guy has taken up reading about the human brain and philosophizing about life). But their uneventful Sunday is turned on its head when their seventeen-year-old daughter Carla, an angel with a broken wing and a smart mouth, comes home and tells her parents she thinks she has done something bad... something very bad. What transpires is a laugh out loud comedy with a Pittsburgh twist involving a football, an interrogation, tasers, hammers, duct tape and a hilarious family of characters sorting out the truth the best way they can.
WHO IS ROUTE 66 THEATRE COMPANY?
Route 66 is a Chicago-based Equity company committed to producing shows in both Chicago and Los Angeles, beginning with our critically acclaimed production of ON AN AVERAGE DAY. Our name is derived from the historic "Mother Road" that connects Chicago to LA. As a company, we choose pieces which honor the spirit of Route 66: exploration, determination and knowingly encountering risk - giving life to stories that link America together. We offer our patrons a wide variety of work, from a monthly reading series of new plays, solo performances and the Chicago premiere of the rock musical HIGH FIDELITY (named one of the "Top Ten" shows of 2010 by the Sun Times and Broadwayworld.com)
We believe in the importance of telling stories and of bringing new work to new audiences. The power of live theatre as a means to entertain and enrich our lives and our communities. In less than three years, Route 66 has produced four shows--all Chicago premieres--one in two cities and has been nominated for LADCC, L.A. Ovation and three Jeff Awards--winning one Jeff Award for Sound Design for their production of THE K OF D: AN URBAN LEGEND.
WHY MCMEEKIN FINDS OUT?
On July 21st, 2009, Route 66 Theatre Company, as part of our Monthly Reading Series at Mrs Murphy and Sons Irish Bistro, presented a staged reading of a new play called McMeekin Finds Out, by Chicago playwright Scott Barsotti. The reaction to this play was stronger and more enthusiastic than any play reading we ever done, and we knew we had something very special on our hands.
Route 66 believes that now is the perfect time to produce a piece like McMEEKIN FINDS OUT. It is a play that will make you laugh so hard your sides hurt, but it is also about family and forgiveness. It is a play that everyone can relate to in some way, and it truly is a unique story that has not been told before.
HOW CAN YOU HELP US MAKE IT HAPPEN?
Brother (or Sister) can you spare $5? As a young company, Route 66 is not yet eligible for most corporate and foundation grants, and we cannot rely on season subscription sales to fund our productions. This means every time we bring an exciting play to life onstage, we must ask for donations from generous supporters like yourself. Kickstarter is just one of the new, cutting-edge methods we are using to raise funds. This is an incredible opportunity for you to be a part of the process in developing a new play.
In donating just $5, you can help pay an actor's weekly salary, paint a set, design publicity materials, and contribute to all the elements that make producing a world premiere play possible.
A FINAL WORD:
IF WE DO NOT REACH OUR KICKSTARTER PROJECT GOAL, WE DO NOT SEE A DIME! So please help us to not only achieve our goal, but to exceed it, by sharing our page with your family and friends.
We at Route 66 thank you for you generosity and support, and we look forward to seeing you at the theatre!!!
