About this project
I have been cheffing in various forms since launching my business, Be Bliss Healing Therapies, in 2008. Since becoming a Raw Food Chef at the Living Light Culinary Institute, I have taught over 200 classes and given over 100 demonstrations on how to make delicious raw vegan dishes. I have personal cheffed for a number of families, catered events and co-hosted raw food retreats in Barbados. These experiences have afforded me the opportunity to connect with my community; learning what people want to experience when they purchase food from an eatery. In fact, one of the most common questions I get when people taste my food is, "When are you opening a cafe?"
What's with "Enlightened"?
Through eating clean, whole foods with an emphasis on raw fruits and veggies, we "enlighten" every cell in our body. When we eat well, we feel well. When we feel well, we do well. We are more productive in our jobs, we are more present with our loved ones and in life. We have the motivation to change our lives for the better.
Ezra's "Enlightened" Cafe serves HIGH VIBRATION, HEALING and UTTERLY DELICIOUS food that makes you FEEL AWESOME. Our customers will leave with an ENLIGHTENED sense of wellbeing.
Why open a raw, "bee"gan, gluten-free cafe?
In the midwest, fast food eateries, fried chicken and burger joints are the norm. It's time for a more vibrant & fresh alternative.
Ezra's will be the first eatery of it's kind in Indiana - totally vegetarian, "bee"gan (animal-free except the use of raw honey), gluten free and GMO free. We are excited to be offering not only amazingly delicious food, but food that is pure, whole and healing. We will be a HAVEN of HEALTH for our community.
From what & how is our food made?
Our food is made from fresh veggies, greens, fruits, nuts, seeds, grains, seaweeds, clean oils, herbs & fresh spices.
We make our own nut milks, we create amazing pie crusts from dried fruits and nuts & we make dressing so good you could cry....from just a few whole food ingredients.
Oh, and the most important of all....our food is sourced, created and served with LOVE.
Why we are raising funds
We are launching this crowd funding project to help fund equipment we need. Because we are a predominantly "raw" cafe, much of what we create requires refrigeration and freezers to hold the massive amounts of produce we will be using and to store our prepared items. We will also need freezer space to store frozen fruit for our smoothies and dehydrators to make our breads, crackers and desserts. We would like a deli case to display our cakes, pies and chocolates.
The larger purchases are:
- Commercial freezer
- Commercial refrigerator
- Deli case
To purchase these items, we desire to raise a minimum of $10,000. These funds will help us reach our goal of opening our doors by January 2014.
Our food is Raw, "Bee"gan and Gluten-Free. Raw/vegan food enthusiasts report more energy, brighter and clearer skin and the disappearance of diseases of all kinds. The premise behind "raw" food is that you are consuming nutrient dense, fresh food, not damaged by high heat. At Ezra's we will use dehydrators instead of ovens, keeping the temperature of the food below 118 degrees. Whether you eat raw or not, our food is amazingly flavorful and delicious. We're not into healthy food that is gross. We need to enjoy our food! Everything we will be serving at Ezra's will be not only super healthy but SUPER delish!
The EEC Team
We have an AMAZING group of individuals working hard to make Ezra's a success. Success for us is not just being profitable, it's about enjoying our work, creating high quality, nutritious food and serving our customers and our community. This is a labor of love!
Ezra's will offer classes every month, teaching how to make vibrant, gluten-free, vegan fare. We think it is so important to not only have a place to come like Ezra's to enjoy food made for you with love, but to also know how to make it for yourself. We believe in empowering others to make healthy choices for themselves every day. And we LOVE sharing what we know!
Risks and challenges
The risks for opening a cafe can be many. We will be in the heart of Broad Ripple Village, which is a very trendy, funky and fun part of Indianapolis. Rent is traditionally very high in this area. We have been able to secure ASTOUNDINGLY LOW rent, which will help to keep our monthly expenses low. We have built the website ourselves (with the help of a talented designer who I pay with chocolate :) and will be doing our own marketing and promoting (with volunteers willing to work for raw chocolate :). We will be purchasing used equipment when possible, repurposing tables and chairs, and basically going DIY style whenever possible in the design of the cafe. We use our money and resources wisely...in short, we are frugal :)
Ezra's will be in a very small space (a remodeled garage, attached to a fabulous wellness center, The Playful Soul http://theplayfulsoul.com/). Being in a small space will allow us to keep our utilities low. We also will not need to hire wait staff, keeping our staff expenses to a minimum.
This cafe is my dream, my passion and my love. One I have been working toward for many years. I am a hard worker, very motivated and I understand what it takes to make a business successful. My amazing team and I are committed to making Ezra's a success and a haven of well-being in our community.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for checking out our project and funding/sharing! xoxo
