I had my lion drawing made into a blanket so you can wrap yourself in the courage, strength, and connection that this lion symbolizes. May it inspire you to persist through difficulty, and remember the ways you are connected.
As an eight your old girl I survived being abducted, taken out of the U.S., shot during war, and crossing into death (click for link to video), because I was saved by several women who had the courage to love bravely. During my Near Death Experiences I was given the strength to persist when all seemed completely lost.
Last April I was reunited with the granddaughter of a woman who saved my life. Her grandmother found me wounded and bleeding after a battle during the Rhodesian Bush War. Back in 1977 when others saw she had taken in a wounded white child they said, "Don't bother with her, it is too dangerous for your family if you are caught hiding her from soldiers." She said, "I won't throw her away, she is a living human being." She took the risk to care for me. It is because of her choice that I am alive today. To me she is a tremendous model of loving bravely. Here is a link to the video of my reunion with her granddaughter who was like a sister to me.
My hope is people will order a Lion Blanket for themselves, and more to give as gifts to people they know who might need encouragement, or beauty. I can imagine the lion blanket bringing joy to a child who has a terminal illness, comfort to someone healing from loss, commitment to someone recovering from drug addiction, or happiness to someone who simply loves lions. The blanket should arrive the first week in December so you will have time to mail it out before Christmas.
The proceeds (beyond the cost to weave the blankets) from this project will go to two things:
First: I will give 10% to the Marimani Community in Zimbabwe where the people who saved my life would benefit from having cleaner water.
Second: The rest will go toward editing the footage we took during my first return trip to Zimbabwe into a documentary.
The documentary will share how we retraced my steps from when I was 8 years old. This past April, we found every location including where I was taken in and sung to by rural women, and where I was shot by a soldier. Viewers will get to experience the profound healing that occurred when I found the location of the battle. I was able to bow down on the land and give my thanks to the people who saved my life. After that I could truly let history be laid to rest and no longer had to carry the war inside myself.
If this Lion Blanket project goes well beyond my wildest dreams it could fund the whole documentary production. However, if we make the modest goal I have set, then it will help us get started. Your support is greatly appreciated. To find out when my memoir and the documentary becomes available you can go to RobinLandsong.com and sign up on my newsletter.
If you want the blanket shipped to a country I did not list in the shipping, please send me a message and I will find out the shipping cost and add your country to the list. If you want to order more than 4 blankets, please message me and I will make a category for you. If you have any questions or want to connect please send me a message or find me on Facebook and I will get back to you!
Risks and challenges
There is really no risk in this project. On October 30th I will tell the blanket weavers how many blankets to make. After three to four weeks of production time, they will ship the blanket(s) to you.
In America the blankets should arrive first week in December.
For Canadians the blankets will be shipped Fed Ex.
For Europeans blankets will be shipped Priority Mail or dhl Express.
