Weddings are an important juncture in our lives. They are the moment when two people make a commitment to each other, declare their love in front of God, their family and friends and set out to build a life together. It is no surprise that we spend so much time and energy preparing for this day. It is even less of a surprise, that wedding days remain engrained in our memories for the rest of our lives. Weddings are a major milestone in our lives.
Over the years, I’ve had the honor to play for hundreds of weddings. During this time I have encountered an ever-growing need for a type of music that I found did not exist. Brides consistently have the same request: they want to walk down the aisle and they want their ceremony filled with traditional wedding music; the wedding marches, the Canon in D, Schubert’s Ave Maria, among others. At the same time, however, they want a modern, contemporary sound. They want to hear music that speaks the language of our present time but traditional wedding music has been engrained in our society. It is part of our cultural DNA. People love this classic wedding music and expect to hear it on their wedding day. At the same time, they are also looking for music similar to what they hear every day, at home, on the radio… music that speaks their language. I myself, encountered this void when planning music for my own wedding. The music in this album is set out to fill this void. It is a response to this gap between the traditional and the contemporary. This album is a collection of arrangements, impromptus and interpretations of the wedding classics we all grew up to love and expect but with a modern, contemporary feel. This album will prove to be an answer for future brides looking for a contemporary approach to the traditional wedding music. The album will also include some of my original pieces.
Like the project itself, which is a blend of the old and the new, the classics and the contemporary, this album represents a junction in my own musical journey. It envelops everything; my love for the piano-for performing, creating and writing. My passion for pop, contemporary and classical music.
I have been actively working on this album for the past year, although you could say I’ve been preparing myself for this project my entire life. After it’s original creation, the music in this album has grown, developed and undergone several revisions. These pieces have reached a point in which they are polished for recording. I am ready to make this album a reality.
I am honored to say that the legendary William Ackerman (Founder of Windham Hill, Grammy award winner, recipient of multiple Platinum and Gold Records) has agreed to produce this album. We plan to record the album at Imaginary Road Studios; Will’s studio, which is set in the mountains of Vermont. I cannot wait to play the beautiful Steinway piano they have at the studio and have Tom Eaton work in his magic as the recording engineer.
I’ll share with you some of the comments William Ackerman had after hearing a demo of the album:
“It’s remarkable that Vicente has managed to find a new angle on this piece which has otherwise been run into the ground. This is a fresh new approach which works beautifully”. (Comment on Romanze/Canon in D)
“This is really remarkable. This rendition of the time-worn piece is actually touching… an incredible feat if you ask me”. (Comment on the Bridal March)
“A remarkable rendition, managing to capture an entirely new perspective on the piece. This arrangement is respectful of the inspiration while managing to very successfully personalize it in Vicente’s hands”. (Comment on the Ave Maria)
As an independent musician, I’ve had the freedom to create and make musical choices not constrained by a record label. This has allowed this project to develop into something truly original. On the other hand, this also means I don’t have the financial backing a record label would provide. And this is where you come in. This is where you can help. All the proceeds raised in this campaign will go directly to the production of this album. Your contribution will cover the costs for recording, production, mixing, mastering, duplication, artwork, photography and travel expenses. I will be greatly indebted to you for any contribution you make. In addition to that, as a sign of my appreciation, you can choose from a number of perks. You can find all these perks clearly listed on the right side of this page.
I should mention that if I don’t reach my fundraising goal, I will not receive any of your donations. Kickstarter would then return all your pledges back to you (No need to worry as your donations are not at risk). I’m letting you know about this only for transparency’s sake as I am confident we will reach our goal. I have faith that together, we will create something beautiful and meaningful. Together, we can all be part of a project that responds to a need to fill an existing void in the wedding music repertoire. I hope that after reading this, you'll be able to see the value of this project and feel as strongly about it as I do. Your contribution will make all the difference. Simply stated, say “I do”.
