** Update: We've met our goal! If you'd still like a copy of the book, and have not yet contributed, please do back this project -- we'll publish as many books as there is demand for them!
I've been taking photographs for the better part of 25 years, though things have come into far greater focus (pun semi-intended) over the last 8 years. With both 35mm and medium format cameras, I've tried to capture little glimpses of the everyday, whether it's here in New York City or far afield. And along the way, when I've managed to convince them to sit down just long enough, I've also had the pleasure of photographing my friends and family, and sometimes, when the courage strikes, complete strangers too. Photography has been my way of framing the world around me -- making sense of it, but also seeing beauty and idiosyncrasy in the mundane and ephemeral.
I could yammer on about my photography, but the slideshow above offers a bit into what I see and capture, and as an added bonus, is yammer-free. I invite you to take a look.
Back to the photobook itself: I've found a great publishing house -- Edition One Books -- and I'm rounding up the photographs and starting to design the layout as I write this. Do check out some of Edition One's other publications on their Facebook site: https://www.facebook.com/editiononebooks
The planned photobook will be approximately 10x13 inches, with 70 pages and somewhere between 50-70 large-sized images, bound in grey linen hardcover with the book title foil stamped on the front and spine. Initial pricing of a single photobook with these specs is around $75, so a contribution of $50 will get you a copy at a discount. Meeting the $2,000 campaign goal will provide the deposit required to start the printing process. Any funds raised in excess of the $2,000 goal will go towards producing additional copies of the book.
I'm terrible with the language of "Hey, fund me!", so I'll just say that I'm pretty excited about the idea of seeing my work beautifully displayed in one place -- and I hope you are, too. If so, please do back this project in whichever way you can. I send my many thanks your way.
** Note: Copies of the photobook will be signed (if you'd like)!
Risks and challenges
I've never put together a photobook before, but I am confident that during the campaign period and the month following, the layout of the book will be completed and sent to the publishers. I anticipate an end-of-November shipping date for the book and other rewards, in time for the holidays and/or just sitting by the fire, curled up with a photobook in one's lap.
