Hi! I'm Ellisa Sun, and thank you for your interest in my project! I'm a singer-songwriter based in the Bay Area, originally from Seal Beach, California.
I have secretly dreamt of singing and creating music since I was 7 years old. Writing poems, journaling and singing alone in my room made me happy, but I never thought I could perform or write songs.
20 years later, I found myself living in San Francisco. Inspired by the Bay Area's music scene, I worked up the courage to share my voice with others. Singing covers in front of my close friends became singing covers at open mic nights.
Then, my sister Nicole (who is a brilliant comedy writer and actress in her own right) encouraged me to try writing my own song. (Fun Fact: the first original song I ever wrote was a comedy song called "First World Problems".) The floodgates opened, and more original songs began pouring out of me.
I like to think of Songwriting and singing as therapy: my words and voice are tools to help release mental and emotional energy. And I don't have to pay insurance! (Har har.)
As I continued to perform, things just snowballed. I met my band, worked hard, and now my dreams of singing and creating have become a reality!
Every day, I take a step back and honestly cannot believe I'm doing the thing I love. I am so grateful to have found my voice, and I can't wait to share it with the world.
This album is my first baby, showcasing the sound my band and I have created over the past four years. The sounds you will hear are a combination of my favorite genres: soul, jazz, R&B, bossa nova, folk, and rock.
I've been lucky enough to grow up with a family passionate about music. My mom always played records ranging from Joni Mitchell to Earth, Wind, & Fire to Alicia Keys. Before I actually started creating my own music, I was an avid listener and fan. I have a love affair with music, and I wholeheartedly want this album to sound as amazing as the artists I grew up listening to.
There will be 8 songs on the album and the arrangements have been written by myself and my bandmates. Recording them in the studio will be purely magical!!
I will be working with producer Jay Pellici, who will engineer and mix the album at Oakland-based studio New, Improved Recording. Jay has 13 years of experience engineering and mixing records that I love, and I am so honored to be working with him.

Risks and challenges
My band and I are very tight, hardworking and excited about this project. Because there are so many moving parts and people involved, I would say the largest risk and challenge is staying on schedule. Should the project get pushed back to a later date due to scheduling conflicts or unforeseen illness/injury, I will make sure to communicate to you all the updates.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
