A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

What is Autoset?
Autoset is the automated miter saw fence that enables you to cut more precisely, work faster, and even reduces scrap from measuring and cutting errors.
As a part of the Internet of Tools from Velocity Robotics, Autoset integrates with VR's mobile app to streamline your workflow whether you're building a skyscraper, making a bookshelf, or anything in between.
Autoset Gives You
Make every cut within 1/64" (0.4mm) of your target.
No need to stop, measure, mark, and adjust.
No manual measuring. The cut list comes directly from your design or an electronic measuring device.

How Autoset Works
The app records a measurement from the tape measure and sends to Autoset. Autoset shows you which way to move, and then does a fine adjust after you move it. Make your perfect cut and be on your way.
Use a Bluetooth eTape, or a DISTO laser distance meter to automatically import a measurement to the app with a button press on the tape measure. The app is designed so that this operation can be completed with your phone out-of-sight, and it's extremely fast. This step alone saves a lot of time because you're not fiddling with the tape measure, trying to read a corner at the bend of the tape, or trying to look at the tape upside down. Alternatively, import a cut list from a spreadsheet if you're working from a design. Or, if you know what cut length you need without measuring, you can manually add a cut length.
Move the stop in the direction indicated. Autoset will automatically stop within about 1/2-inch of the target cut length and make a fine adjustment to within 1/64-inch to give you a precise cut. There's no need to interact with a phone here either. Autoset automatically pulls the latest cut from your phone. The fine adjustment takes about 1 second, so by the time you have your work piece ready to cut, Autoset is ready for you.
Make the cut with full confidence that it's the correct length. After the cut is completed, AutoSet loads the next cut in the list, and the process starts over.
After Autoset is attached to your saw and before you make any cuts, it needs a quick calibration. This is done in a few easy steps as well.
Connect your phone and move the stop to its "home" location (as close to the blade as possible)
Make a cut (or a notch) on some scrap
Measure the cut length and enter it into the app either manually or with one of the Bluetooth measuring tools.
That's it! Now you're calibrated and ready to go. The only time you'll need to re-calibrate is when you tear down the unit and set it back up again.
Autoset is at home in the wood shop, and it was designed and built for the construction site. The price point makes it accessible to both the contractor and serious DIYer.

Velocity Robotics was founded back in 2014 with the goal of improving workflow productivity on the construction site. So many contractors told us about the bottleneck of the "cut guy". The measure-cut-install workflow is the most common workflow in both construction and woodworking, and we've been focused on streamlining it ever since. We first developed an app for recording measurements and sharing them between members of the crew, the first step toward Autoset. Since mid-2016, we've been working hard to develop Autoset. We started with simple, proof-of-concept prototypes to prove out various aspects of the design. We delivered our first, fully-functional field prototype to a customer earlier this year. We're currently working on finalizing the design and securing manufacturing and supply chain contracts for the launch of the Autoset product early in 2018.

Velocity Robotics builds tools that seek to eliminate human error from measuring, especially in construction. Our tools enable builders, both professional and DIY, to measure and cut more accurately, help them reduce waste, and even enable them to to work faster.
Our founder and CEO, Brad Kriel, not only has a background in the construction equipment industry but also is a DIY remodeler himself, having completely remodeled his 1930's-era home with his wife since moving to Pittsburgh in 2007. Brad's goal in founding the company was to eliminate the headache associated with construction, especially residential remodeling. The products we're developing, the "Internet of Tools", are more generally applicable to all kinds of construction and woodworking, though. Applications include carpentry, woodworking, plumbing, prefabricated housing, and more.
Since its founding, Velocity has been nurtured as part of the startup scene in Pittsburgh, and we've brought on excellent engineering and marketing staff that have helped us to develop Autoset into a world-class product.
Risks and challenges
Velocity Robotics is made up of experienced engineers who have brought many products to market. From the beginning, Autoset has been designed with manufacturability in mind. The parts that we have made are designed to be both durable and easy to manufacture. The parts that we have sourced have been chosen for the long haul, so that as we grow, the parts will remain available and decrease in cost.
It is our intention to be around a long time, and for Autoset to be the first of many time-saving and high-precision tools for construction and woodworking. With respect to Autoset’s functionality, all of Autoset’s major challenges have been resolved. The measurement, the fine-adjustment, the braking, the Bluetooth connection, and the user interface have all been designed, tested, and refined. The remaining challenge before us is for the manufacture of hundreds and then thousands of units. Because Autoset is a precision tool, there are many parts that must be made to exacting standards. One of the challenges before us is to find manufacturers who can provide us with precision parts at an affordable cost. Our engineers are up to the challenge. This is nothing that we haven’t done before, and are confident we can provide Autoset to you at a price point that makes it accessible, with a quick return on your investment in automation.
