Danny Homan here--the writer for Elliot Quest. Now that the game is in beta and on its way to being released, I’d like to tell you a bit more about the plot and the island of Urele (spoilers free).
As you probably already know, Elliot is a guy with nothing left to lose. He lives on the small island called Urele that hardly anyone else lives on anymore. His wife Cara has been missing for so long that Elliot has assumed she’s dead. Suddenly, he’s struck by a strange, terrible illness, and he doesn’t know what’s wrong. When he finds the answer, he tries to take his own life--only to discover that he can’t die. Worse still, he’s the victim of a curse--from a demonic creature he thought was just a fairy tale...and if that weren’t bad enough, this demon has chosen him as its next vessel--if he doesn’t do something, it will consume his soul.
We’ll tell Elliot’s story in a variety of ways--through traditional means like cutscenes, townspeople, and the like. But we’re also working with a inner-monologue, where you the player receive Elliot’s thoughts as he explores Urele Island seeking a cure. So far, we’re liking this quiet way of exploring Elliot’s character--both because these inner-monologues don’t stop the gameplay but provide insight into his hopes/fears.
Elliot’s not your traditional hero--in fact, as you’ll soon discover, he might not be a hero at all. He’s just a guy who’s been dealt a bad hand and doesn’t know what to do. We’ll tell you more about the story as it progresses, but feel free to ask questions.
