Space Movers is back on kickstarter and live with a new expansion. Link here:
EVERYONE PLEASE CHECK OUT UPDATE #12 FOR SOME IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS!
Thanks for the reply Yannick, we are working very hard to try and get the Objective deck to either be a part of the base game or a very low stretch goal. Should have some answers on that next week.
Here are my answers for the two questions in the last update :
1) I think that a variant for the Objective card deck is a must for the game and should be included really fast in the campaign. Objective cards are at the center of the game and the option of a random deck is really a must for the re-playability. In my opinion, this deck should be included with the base game.
2) I really don't care about the higher rewards 'choose the name of...' or 'send your picture for a new character design...'. Maybe some gamers like these rewards and I respect that. But these rewards are not for me. Sorry! I prefer focusing on the gameplay.
Just tested the random Objective Card Deck that will be a stretch goal in the new Kickstarter. Really fun!!
The re-playability of Space Movers is already very high, but we are adding a few things in the next campaign. There will be more Objective card sets included, and one of the stretch goals will be a full Objective card deck that can be drawn from at random.
To pledge for the full game, I would need to see how you address the re-playability concern regarding the way the objective cards are used. Good luck on your new campaign.
We are working very hard on the new Space Movers Kickstarter and cant wait for you all to see it. We hope to have it ready to look at this weekend or early next week.
I would honestly just read everything in Jamey Steigmaier's blog over at http://stonemaiergames.com/kickstarter/. If there's anyone who knows how to run a board game Kickstarter, it's him.
If you have not already please follow us on twitter @SpaceMovers and on Facebook at:
We need to build our following before we launch again and we need your help! Please follow us, like us, share us, and send people our way.
For the next kickstarter maybe some add on or pledge for the good quality you had or mini expansion. For the rest you already had a video etc so thats good. Just telling maybe somthing is useful.
As you see from the last update we have stopped funding on this campaign, but there will be a BETTER version of the Space Movers Kickstarter launching in just a couple weeks! Be sure read update #6 for some of the ideas for the new Kickstarter.
We want your input! Let's get the conversation started here:
1) What worked?
2) What did not work?
3) What do you want to see in the next one?
Feel free to message directly if you like
I don't know how they could release a "barebones" version of the game though. It seems that the components are an integral part of the gameplay experience/mechanic? I also think, as a UK backer, that $65 to my house isn't too shabby. Really hope this succeeds as it looks like an excellent game!
No worries, Hector. We want the same thing. I honestly think that the main thing KnA needs to do is adjust their pledge levels. Offer a bare-bones version of the game at $35-$39. Offer a full or expanded version at $55-$59. Then offer several higher tiers that include cosmetic enhancements, vanity card inclusion, deluxe packaging, etc. Give your hardcore fans a reason to pledge more money. Currently there is no incentive to pledge more than $55 unless you're outside of the US or a retailer. Also their main video could probably be shorter, more professionally produced, and/or more personal (i.e., introducing us to the creator/team.) Those would be my humble suggestions anyway. I certainly wish them all the luck!
Fair enough Theo. I see what you're saying. I guess I misunderstood what you said and I apologize if I came off the wrong way.
It's tough because a company like this has produced what looks like a really good game and they've done all the right things. They have the full rulebook. They have posted several solid independent reviews. They have a gameplay video. I'm confident they are going to get this game produced one way or another. And we still have some time to go yet, so let's see what they have planned.
Hi, Hector. Oh, I completely agree with all your points. I'm just positing why this particular project isn't taking off. Referring to the data collected over at BoardGameGeek (http://boardgamegeek.com/blogpost/33736/kickstarter-analytics-2010-2014) the median pledge for getting the full game on Kickstarter is around $35 and the average pledge level to get a game hovers around $42. $55 certainly places Space Movers into the expensive range of games on Kickstarter (excluding mini-based games.) I understand that a lower price point may not be feasible for KnA games. It may have been wiser for them to start with a more modest game to build a reputation, and then they could potentially bring people in to a more expensive game like this one. I'm certainly not saying it's a bad deal, and I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from backing. I'm just trying to offer constructive feedback because I want this game to succeed, even if that will require a relaunch. And as far as I can see, the price point may be their biggest obstacle.
As a UK backer, $65 to the doorstep is pretty sweet especially as my son loves space and loves co-ops, so win win win :D
Re Eldrich Horror - it retails around £50 here which is about $80, we rarely get a close exchange on these things ;( Although I guess business isnt about how much you should charge, but how much ppl are prepared to pay ;)
Sorry Theo but I have to disagree. $40 for a full out boardgame is a little of unheard these days, especially for a small company that can only produce so many units. Production costs have really shot up in the last few years. Just saw Eldritch Horror going for $60, I believe, at my local game store. And that has no minis. If you're referring to the prices you see at discount online sites, then it's not realistic to expect a small company to compete with something like that either. And this isn't a preorder, it's a company trying to get their first game published.
I'm not trying to start a fight but I just don't want people to come here and read your comment and think this project is a bad deal because it's not.
I'm rather surprised it's not doing better either, but the price might be something of a deterrent. People seem to prefer sub-$40 board games when they aren't mini-based. $55 for a game is quite steep, even outside of Kickstarter. If this was priced around $40 I think you'd see a lot more attention to the project. It might benefit the project to have some higher level vanity pledge level where folks could get their likeness into the game in some way. Either way, I pledged a dollar to see how things progress. It's a project that has potential.
I'm really hoping that this weekend plan is going to draw in more people. As far as I see it the problem is that this project is too far down when you're browsing the tabletop games category, not a lot of people will browse so far down.
Which is a shame because it's really looking good and you considered almost every possibility and have a rule for it. Watching your game play video isn't good for my patience either, I really wanna play it. ;-).
Thanks for demoing the game yesterday. I really liked it even though we died very quickly. Good luck with the funding!
@Michael We're actually in central Florida :)
@KnA - Would "out of state" be anywhere near central NY? ;) Wouldn't mind helping you test it out.
great to see banners for this game up on board game geek hopefully this will push backers here
@ KnA. Very cool. I don't know if changing the banner will help but it was just a thought. Good luck on the demos. And excited to hear what you guys have up your sleeves! And yes this game is too good not to get made.
@ Hector. We are out of state doing demos of the game this week so we can't make that change until this weekend, unfortunately.
@Everyone. We WILL get this game made. Please stick with us as we have some things in the works and we'll be making an announcement regarding some big changes this weekend.
@ Hector - That's a good idea. I think I was hooked because of that "feel", as well as the game play looking wonderful.
And I'm with you on the support for the good games that need it. I have some feelings on the bigger companies using KS as a pre-order service (which I'll leave out, for now) but I love seeing good games being put together that actually use KS for production and funding. I really hope it gets published. 20 days is a long time!
@KnA. Maybe one suggestion on the banner is to show the box cover image instead of the box at an angle. It's kind of hard to see what is on the box cover at that angle. That image evokes a star warsy feel and might intrigue people to come see what the game is about.
Hey Michael! Good to see you. Yeah I was going to stay away from KS for awhile but a few really cool games have popped up this being one of them. I especially like to support the smaller projects that really need the funding to get published. This game looks great. I'm not sure how people are overlooking it. It doesn't help that two big projects' pledge managers went out last week I think.
Hey Hector! You're everywhere! How has this game not made funding yet? 20 days to go, but sorta surprised it's still uner $7k.
Thanks April. I do like how a different set of objective cards can change things up easily without over complicating the game or complicating the game at all.
Thanks for all the suggestions Hector. It would be interesting to add more dice elements to the game. But you're right. Changes like this would require lots more play testing. We could certainly incorporate things like this very easily in expansions. Love your avatar by the way :) April
So I know the game looks quite finished and polished but something else crossed my mind while I was watching the game play video. What about upgrade abilities that let you roll different dice? Like one of the characters stumbles on some lost alien technology during their travels (maybe through an event or completed objective card) and now they get a bonus to their science skill. So now they get to roll a D12 instead of a D10 or something like that. Or when getting injured, instead of going straight to sick bay you downgrade to a D6 on your skill checks until healed and only succeed on a 6. A one 1 will then send you to sick bay.
Some people don't like dice games and I get that. But this game seems to embrace them and so why not go all the way and have all sorts of dice in the system. Dragon Dice does this great in my opinion. They have dice for units, locations, weapons and other artifacts, etc. I'm not saying to copy them but rather just trying to point out that you could probably create some cool effects with different dice throughout the game.
Like I said, I realize this game is quite polished and changes like that can throw off balance and such. Just a thought is all.
Its kind of the same for both. You cant play reaction cards if injured or in interrogation, and you also cant roll your die in skill checks. It is just easier to get un injured than it is to get out of interrogation.
@KnA. Just saw the Dice Tower video as well as the gameplay video and the game does look great. Very tense and challenging with lots of bad stuff going on at once. For a coop game, I think that's important to make it worth playing otherwise it gets boring very quickly. So just to be sure I understood, when your character is injured you cannot play reaction cards? And if one of the characters is in interrogation, then you cannot attempt a skill check needing that skill until you go free that character? Thanks.
Stay tuned! We have had several requests for a play-through of the game so this will be added shortly. We will send an update with all the details of this and a couple of other developments. April
To bad the game is not taking off
@Stalvos. I can definitely see this being lots of fun as well!
Stalvos, Some of that is already built into the game through Character abilities and cards others can play. Thanks for the support!
Backer #93 here. This looks like a fun game! I love the idea of throwing your next die at the bad rolls to "fix" them. Maybe think about adding in a few more blank dice and having them as a card based reward that will increase your "fix" factor.
Anybody else out there have any ideas on how to drum up excitement for this game?
Hi guys. Still thinking of ways to get more people on board. I'm not sure because it seems like you are doing everything right.
The rulebook is there. The reviews are there. And this is a very polished and professional looking project.
I'm thinking maybe if you do updates to either highlight the different characters or do a play session report to show people how the game actually plays out. I know a video of a session is difficult but that might be the best of all. I think anything that focuses on gameplay because that is the focus of this game. So it needs to draw the gamers in.
Added more photos over at BoardGameGeek to check out and give a thumbs up to!
Awesome! Thanks again guys.
Thanks for the idea Hector, just sent out an update about it!
They do have odd rules. Thanks for trying though Kevin.
Tried to post the artwork there when you first suggested it. BGG rejected it, they have odd rules. I will try again tonight!
- Kevin (the K in KnA) :)
Also add your artwork to BGG if you can. I think that is a great strength of this game. I think others will love it as well. So everybody here get over there and start thumbing up pics, forum posts and especially undead Vikings review. That should get some attention and is a great endorsement.
Thanks Hector I added "Adventure" to the title we will see if that gets us a few more clicks. Also I love the idea of the BGG hot lists. Lets see if we can get everyone here doing it, I will also try to get it going through our facebook and twitter tonight! Here is the Space Movers BGG link:
