What Is It About?
Steve Ditko was a one-of-a-kind individual. He was best known to many comic book fans as the co-creator of Spider-Man. What made Steve Ditko so unique in the comic book industry was his ability to maintain a very private life.
Rarely conducting interviews or appearing in print media, Steve Ditko remained a mystery for much of his life. For decades, fans speculated his ideas and actions - often creating stories of their own. Fans often made up their own reasons to satisfy their curiosity that revolved around Ditko's art, his departure from Spider-Man, and his unwillingness to meet fans.
This Is Where My story Begins...
I am a lifelong Spider-Man fan. I discovered Spider-Man when I was kid, while shopping at my local comic shop - The Comic Asylum. While there, I was introduced to all things Steve Ditko.
It was then, that I decided to go on this 20+ year journey to collect the whole Amazing Spider-Man series and learn as much as I can about Steve Ditko. I read about Ayn Rand, objectivism, and all things Aristotle - to better understand the philosophical mind of Steve Ditko.
I found myself left with one task - reach out to the man himself. On a whim, I sent Steve Ditko and letter. He sent one back. I sent another. He sent another back. This would continue almost monthly, for four years.
We challenged each other intellectually, and along the way, he revealed a lot about the comic book industry. I've detailed this amazing story in Regards, Ditko.
Named after how Steve Ditko concludes every letter, Regards, Ditko is fascinating and riveting. Regards, Ditko will have you challenging the creatorship of Spider-Man, appreciating the separation of art from artist, and understanding the magnitude of personal privacy in today’s world. Most importantly, you will delve into the decades-old comic book world riddle: Who is Steve Ditko?
