Dare to Dream!
Aron Tarbuck and myself have come together to do something that we have always dreamed of: to write and illustrate a graphic novel. After watching The Tempest late one night, we began to realize that we wished the story had not ended with Prospero giving up his magic. So the story and this Kickstarter were born...
The book itself will be a 32 page black and white version with Stretch Goals for making it full color and of longer length. The entire story of Prospero's Price will be told in 32 illustrated pages. As we progress on the Kickstarter, more sections of pages will be added that will show the expanded world, more spirits and gods, and even deeper character development. We have a story already outlined in several lengths and will be updating our progress as the Kickstarter goes on!
The Writers Write
I am writing this Graphic Novel with Aron Tarbuck who's vast knowledge of both Shakespeare and Lovecraft makes him uniquely qualified to be its lead writer. With his twenty years of professional writing experience and 15 years of experience finding and recommending the best stories at his store, The Dreaming Comics and Games, he has developed a keen ability to make one fall in love with characters to the point of addiction. I have been writing and illustrating in the gaming industry for 10 years and it drives me to write the story I've always wanted to read; and illustrate it with a world that might make one's eyes bleed if they stare too long.
Check out our 'About You' page for a list of creation credits for Aron and myself.
Our Story, Sequel to The Tempest
In our story, Prospero discovers there is a price to be paid for cracking open the forbidden tomes and riling the anger of Gods no mortal should ever know... There is a price: For awakening and using the powers of cosmic, unknowable creatures... For breaching magic for selfish, dark intent... For enslaving the son of a God. How does Prospero survive the chaos he has created? How will Prospero's seemingly bootless daughter rise up from her protective shell and discover her prowess as she navigates the perilous paths left there by her own misguided father. What will the spirits Ariel and Caliban have come to after their emancipation from servitude and how will they unknowingly pull the web ever tighter over their old master.
The Original Story
The Tempest is a brilliant play by William Shakespeare and one of our favorites of all time. In it, Prospero seeks to exact vengeance on those responsible for taking his throne and having him exiled to a distant island with his daughter Miranda. He does this by tapping into alchemy with his own tomes and the dark, forbidden tomes of the witch Sycorax, whom he kills soon after his arrival. Prospero invokes all the magics and alchemy he knows to bewitch and torture his enemies... But in the end, he finds release from hatred by forgiving those who have wronged him. He returns to his dukedom after throwing all of his beautiful tomes into the sea and giving up Magic forever to reclaim his throne... For these practices were what led him to his punishment to begin with... "Every third thought shall be my grave."

Risks and challenges
Thanks to everyone for making my Kickstarter from last year so successful! It was an amazing experience and one that I have looked forward to repeating. This time around, I've decided to create a product; A Graphic Novel. As with everything I do, my biggest obstacle is money. I have asked for the minimum amount I need to create this story. I feel confident that this obstacle will be overcome with your love and support! A dream is just a goal without a plan!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
