chuthis. is a project based dance company that gathers a team of incredible artists from all over North America. The Company is reworking its original production of Nothing Sticks in Vancouver, BC from July 2 to August 2. Performances will be on August 1 & 2, 2012. We are partnering with the Vancouver series Dances for a Small Stage.
Dances for a Small Stage has been wowing audiences since 2002 by tearing down formalities and creating intimate, raw scenarios in which to experience dance. The popular series is renowned for bringing unique and innovative contemporary dance to a rough–and–tumble cabaret setting. Urban, dynamic and full of imaginative and diverse programming, the Small Stage series has become a mainstay of the Vancouver arts scene with its inventive approach to live dance-theatre.
Dances for a Small Stage is the perfect environment for presenting Nothing Sticks. We are excited to share this work in a setting that presents art for everyone. Nothing Sticks creates a synergy between entertainment and art.
In 2010 Peter Chu won the Capezio Award for Choreographic Excellence (the “ACE Award”). As a result of the award, Nothing Sticks was created and premiered in New York City in the summer of 2011.
Nothing Sticks is a tale of resistance and change. It explores the temporal nature of entertainment and life. This work tackles the complexities of impermanence and the human tendency to doubt: doubting our own perception of reality. Ideas, thoughts and sensations break up into flowing smooth movement with liquid-like energy that expands, contracts, undulates and vibrates.
Today we are asking for your support with funding the re-work of Nothing Sticks.
The re-work budget for Nothing Sticks is $35,000. This budget includes flights, accommodation, per diem, programs, rehearsal space, lighting, costumes and set. However, it does not include music composition re-work, animation re-work, video archiving, dance floor, costumes and any special equipment necessities. We have been working diligently to raise grants, but need additional finances to completely fund the show and packaging it for future touring.
We are reaching out to you today to ask if you would consider donating to our Kickstarter page to help chuthis. re-work this outstanding, revolutionary show. Peter Chu hopes to grow chuthis.: Nothing Sticks is merely the beginning.
We have set a goal to raise a minimum of $8,000.
