Internet of Things (IoT) is about sensing our surrounding environment and making intelligent control actions.
Temperature and Humidity (T&H) remain top on the list for DIY Maker projects' sensing needs, we see many T&H sensor comes in handy in forms of breakout boards or as a standalone component, we see these breakout boards are good for starting, but missing the seriousness for product and solution construction.
With our rich background in IoT electronics and sensor IC understanding, we decided to develop a Probe Shield that would enable DIY Makers to develop serious and practical solutions for their own projects and as part of end products.
Our company's MOTTO is "Collaborate to build livable cities", it is IoT sense and intelligent control that would enable us all to achieve this goal. We want to see species of creatures on our planet exist in harmony, so we design our products with them in mind as well, in this case we embedded "Emperor Penguin" in our design, which you'll see below.

What issues we see with other sensor boards ?
Breakout boards of sensors are solving only part of DIY makers' need, they require additional hook up to DIY platforms such as Arduino or Raspberry.
- DIY makers need to wire additional jumper wires, figuring out the wiring jungle isn't always everyone's cup of tea.
How Makers usually do their T&H measurements ?
- DIY maker are required to put their whole setup of wired Arduino or Raspberry into the measurement chamber - such as a wine cabinet, a storage shelf, a planting greenhouse etc - which are common use cases of these projects.
So you can use our Probe Shield for Arduino - with the T&H probe inside the measurement chamber, while leaving your Arduino board in a moderate ambient environment, maintaining circuit operation stability.
Probe Shield is Stylish / Rugged and Practical
We started from our drawing board with style in mind, the probe has to be practical and be good looking as well.
We are "Maker" in our heart and we want to serve the "Maker" community first, so we are targeting Arduino and other DIY platforms initially.
We may expand our design / support for smart phones / tablet connection later.

Prime design and prime products
Our final pick of the probe opening pattern consists of 3 layers of circles, the number of thin circular segments are 2, 3 and 5 respectively. This is originated from our wish to offer "Prime" products to customers, the numbers 2, 3 and 5 are prime numbers, so this pattern design convey this message also.
The IC sensor
Unlike many basic Temperature and Humidity sensor which uses low quality capacitive humidity sensor and thermistor, we picked IC form sensor for our probe.
The temperature and humidity measurement range would satisfy different needs of DIY and end product requirements.

Emperor penguin (Aptenodytes forsteri) breeds in the coldest environment of any bird species, our designer took inspiration from this lovely creature and he want our product to carry this characteristics of wide environment adaptation.
After all we believe the ultimate goal for IoT initiative is about environment protection and preservation of species on this planet.

Why do we need your support in the project
We have the electronics design of the Arduino Probe Shield completed, the reference coding for using our probe ready for release. We have the probe made with small volume mold tooling, and is at the stage of going to commit mass production tooling of the plastic mold, in order to meet our plan for providing the Probe and Probe Shield product to as many "Maker" of Arduino, and later Raspberry enthusiast.
As always molding tool for plastic parts is not cheap, so a fair portion of our pledged support would go to making the plastic mold, and for the production component arrangement.

We are Confident....
We have confidence in completion of our own design of mechanical parts, electronics, because we are confident in these skill we possessed among our team members.
At the same time we pay special attention and care....
Communication with our manufacturing partners is an area we need to pay special attention because of the physical distance, despite this we are committed to take the extra effort to travel more frequent to visit our factory partners to review production readiness and especially paying attention to quality related training that would be required for making sure their manufacturing procedures comply with our design requirements.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
