Introducing the Longhaul Merino Wool Pants
Woolly Clothing was started with the mission of creating premium quality merino wool clothes in everyday cuts and styles, at prices that don't break the bank. The launch of our Longhaul Pant and Short represent the fulfillment of our mission to make full merino wool living a reality.
The Longhaul Pant: Not Your Father's Wool
Our proprietary merino wool blend is the result of over a year of fabric testing and prototyping; designed to maximize comfort, durability, and style. We worked with custom textile fabricators to dial in our proprietary blend to maximize comfort, durability, and style. The Longhauls are made from a mix of 71% fine Australian merino wool, 22% cotton, and 7% spandex.

Fit and Sizing - Style that looks as good as it feels
Tapered legs and an athletic fit give the Longhaul a modern look and minimizes extra fabric to avoid snags and flapping in the breeze when you're working hard.
Custom sizing note: Kickstarter backers will have the opportunity to specify waist and inseam options outside of the expected size chart options listed below, in even inch increments. If you're hoping for a 28'' inseam, or any bigger/smaller options, don't worry, we should be able to make it happen. We'll collect all sizing/color preferences via our backer survey once our Kickstarter campaign completes in January!
Ready to back this project?
We've got a wide variety of pledge options to suit any merino appetite out there. The Longhaul Design Process
Our team has been hard at work on this project for over a year, working through different fabric formulations and pant designs. Now we're over halfway towards our goal of delivering on the promise of the Longhaul pants and we just need your help to make this project come to fruition.
We're Taking Our Time To Get It Just Right
About the Woolly team and our merino obsession
Back in 2012, Woolly's founders loved the few pieces of merino gear they could manage to afford and wished they could spend 100% of their time wearing this glorious fabric. But there were problems with the world of merino as we saw it:
- It costs way too much. $150 t-shirts and $80 boxers were not practical options for replacing cotton and synthetics as everyday wear basics
- Designed for technical use only. As great as merino hiking shirts and base layers are, no one made merino that you could wear to work or happy hour.
We launched Woolly Clothing so we could combine the performance of merino wool with stylish designs at prices anyone could afford. Starting with boxer briefs in 2012 we expanded over the years with merino socks, shirts, outerwear and even home goods; all designed to make merino look as good as it feels.
Our direct to consumer business model bypasses traditional retail middlemen, passing savings on to our customers. This allows us to cut industry standard costs for merino clothes by up to 50%, making merino an affordable option for replacing the sub-par cotton and synthetic options in most people's closets.
Our shirts and underwear are top sellers with rave reviews on Amazon and from a variety of publications:
- "When I heard news of the women’s line, I got beyond excited.
For the record, I’ve basically been living in them for the last month.
Woolly’s products are neutral basics that go with anything." - The Travel Medley
- "If you’re a fan of merino wool but hate the price tag, you have to check out Woolly.
When you factor in all the benefits and convenience of merino, it might be a better
bang-for-your-buck than the average cotton t-shirt." - Pack Hacker
- "This shirt was my absolute go-to tee shirt during our trip around the world.
We spent most of our time in hot, humid, tropical weather. Whether it was beating
the 100-degree heat in Hawaii, climbing the Acropolis in Greece, kayaking in Thailand,
or scuba diving in the Maldives, this shirt was fantastic." - Loophole Travel
- "I need to look fashionable while in Italy, functional while in Germany and meaningful while in Austria. 20 days and 4 shirts...Woolly V-Neck Merino pulls it off!" - C. Cala, Amazon Review
- "I couldn't wrap my head around paying $60 for a pair of boxers. But when I saw these I couldn't resist trying them out given they were what I pay for regular boxers. I was completely blown away by how comfortable they were -- by far the most comfy boxers I've ever worn" - Buckcity, Amazon Review
As our catalog expanded we knew we were missing something. We still had to spend our days wearing non-merino pants and shorts. For 2 long years we've been working to make the perfect merino wool bottom that can go everywhere and do everything. With the launch of our Longhaul Pant and Short, we've finally made a 'Fully Woolly' existence possible!
Our Standards of Sustainability
From the standpoint of sustainability, it doesn’t get much better than merino wool. We source Woolmark certified Australian merino, regarded as the world’s finest and softest wool. Our merino fabrics are the result of 200 years of sustainable farming on Australia’s grassland terrain. While synthetics are petroleum based, our garments are totally natural, biodegradable and renewable.
With a love for the environment and the outdoors at our core, we took great care in finding a sewing partner that can meet our standards for quality, sustainability and excellent working conditions. Just as we do here in Seattle, our production partners take worker health and safety very seriously and are certified members of the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI). BSCI sets a code of conduct and the systems to implement eleven core labor rights, which all participants commit to implementing within their supply chains.
- What is your return policy? Woolly stands by all of our products and will do anything in our power to make you happy, at any time, no questions asked.
- What about shipping and size and colors? Relax! All details like shipping information, color preference, and add-on specifics will be collected via survey after this campaign has ended.

Risks and challenges
Our merino wool producers and cut-and-sew partners have worked with us for over 6 years. During that time we have dramatically improved the speed and reliability of our supply chain. But delays can and do happen. Our worst case scenario would involve delays, not cancellations.
That being said, our prototypes are near final, our partners are ready for production, and we're confident in our ability to deliver an exceptional product for our backers.
A note on sizing. The Longhauls are built with extra flex for a giving and versatile in fit, but it's possible these pants and shorts just will not fit your body. We follow standard industry sizing guides to minimize any special measuring or confusion. But we get it. If they don't work for you, don't worry, we'll figure out some way to get you an equivalent value in merino, one way or another.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
