Our goal is to bring the documentary feature film "Beauty Beneath the Dirt" to colleges and universities across the country.
Beauty Beneath the Dirt is a far cry from your typical outdoor adventure travelogue. Unlike other Appalachian Trail documentaries that focus on camp life and the natural environment, director Katherine Imp takes a raw and uninhibited look at what happens to the mind, body, and soul over the course of a 2,178.3-mile journey.
"I've always had a fascination with nature's ability to transform, ever since my days of working for Outward Bound," says Kate. "And though none of us were looking to be 'transformed,' I knew that 5 months on the trail would change each of us in some way. And I wanted to capture that change on film."
In 2010, Kate set out to make this dream a reality. Joined by her brother, Brandon Imp, and best friend, Emily Ginger, the trio set out to accomplish one of the most physically and mentally grueling adventures in existence today: an Appalachian Trail thru-hike. The trail takes hikers on a 5-month journey up the East Coast from Georgia to Maine. While regularly averaging 20 miles/day, Kate, Brandon, and Emily also worked together to capture their highs and lows on film.
In an effort to promote the use of state and national parks, and to inspire more people to follow their dreams, the Cast and Crew of Beauty Beneath the Dirt are seeking funding for their Fall 2012 University and College Tour. Donations will be used to cover travel expenses for the tour, as well as film festival submissions, marketing materials, and other distribution costs. In return for your help we are offering unique incentives that can appeal to film enthusiasts, adventure lovers, avid hikers, and anyone who loves a great story about relationships.
Thank you for your support and we hope to see each and every one of you at a screening this year!
