Doki Doki Love! (Canceled)
A 2 to 4 player card game that has players compete against each other by having their Heroes find love before others get in their way.
Welcome to the world of Doki Doki Love! Love is in the air and it is your job to help your Hero find that special person in their life. Things aren't as simple as that though, oh no, this world is full of all the Anime tropes you've come to know over the years. Tropes are elements that appear in multiple creative works, so if you watch Anime, you will know of the many tropes that are used.
Can you help the General Protagonist end up with the Girl Next Door? Or will the obsessive Yandere try to keep them apart? Maybe you’re lucky and the Yandere isn't interested in you, but you still need to worry about your Rival getting in your way, along with all the other guys trying to get the Girl Next Door’s attention.
Heroes and Love Interests are assigned randomly, so each time you play Doki Doki Love, you will have to find the best way to make your Hero appeal to the various Love Interests available. While it may seem easy to just increase your Appeal and encounter a Love Interest, be warned that it is not. Other Heroes will try to lower your Appeal and get in your way. Who said love was simple? You must fight with all your soul to end up with the person you want! And don’t worry, you can mess up their plans as well.
The base set for Doki Doki Love contains Tropes found in slice of life, romance/comedy, and school Anime. Do not fret though! There are plenty of tropes in all kinds of Anime, so maybe there will be new ones coming in the future…depending on the success of this project. And don’t worry if you don’t know many tropes, you will learn more after playing this game.
Oh, and this game is about Anime and love, so you know some Ecchi elements will find their way into the game.
Gameplay takes about 30-60 minutes, depending on the number of players and how familiar they are with the game. The following section will provide a general idea of gameplay.
Each player draws a Hero from the Hero Deck. Three Love Interests are then drawn from the Love Interest Deck and placed together where all players can see them. Players draw their cards from the Action Deck to fill their hands. Once play order is determined, the game can begin.
On a player’s turn, they are able to play an Action card and make an Encounter. Action cards are used to help your Hero or deter opposing Heroes. Encounters are when your Hero encounters a Love Interest. If the Encounter is successful, you can place a token on the Love Interest. Once enough tokens are placed on a Love Interest, the player moves their Hero and that Love Interest into their Score Zone, and a new Hero and Love Interest are drawn. Once a certain number of Love Interests are scored (depending on the number of players), the game will end.
Hero Cards - These are the characters (male and female) that you will try to help find love. The Hero card contains the Hero’s Appeal, Gender, Traits, and Effects. Appeal is used to see if you are able to successfully encounter a Love Interest.
Love Interest Cards - These are the characters (male and female) your Hero is going after. The Love Interest card contains the Love Interest’s Standard, Devotion, Likes/Dislikes, and Effects. The Hero’s Appeal needs to be greater than or equal to the Love Interest’s Standard in order to successfully make an encounter (in order to place a token). When a Hero has tokens on the Love Interest equal to the Devotion, they score the Love Interest.
Action Cards - Action cards come in different types. Their effects are written on the card. Some can only be played on your turn, while others can be played on anyone’s turn. There are also Action cards that equip to characters (Clothing and Accessories) as well as Trip cards. All of these cards help you when playing the game.
Help Cards - Help cards are not part of the game. There will be one for each player and will contain steps during the turn and any helpful information.
Right now the game components are not finalized. Below are what we intend to be included in the game (but has a possibility to change):
- 15 Hero cards
- 25 Love Interest cards
- 115 Action cards (multiples of some cards will appear)
- 4 Help cards
- 1 Exclusive KS Card (will only be printed for KS backers)
- 1 six sided die
- 4 sets of player Tokens (a different color for each player)
- Miscellaneous Tokens/Counters
We intend for the game to include everything needed for immediate play (you have to provide the other players).

$15 - TENKOUSEI - You have our thanks in providing support for our project and our effort to bring more Anime into the board gaming world. You will receive a print and play version of the game (most likely in PDF format).
$49 - SENPAI - You have our thanks in providing support for our project and our effort to bring more Anime into the board gaming world. You will receive 1 copy of the game once it has been made. In addition, you will receive any stretch goals. Available to US backers only.
$84 - RYUUGAKUSEI - You have our thanks in providing support for our project and our effort to bring more Anime into the board gaming world. You will receive 1 copy of the game once it has been made. In addition, you will receive any stretch goals. Available to International backers only.
$100 - MANGAKA - You have our thanks in providing support for our project and our effort to bring more Anime into the board gaming world. You will receive 1 copy of the game once it has been made. In addition, you will receive any stretch goals. Available to US backers only. This pledge level also lets you help us create 1 Action card. We will receive your idea for the card and work with you to make a card that can be included in the game (work on picture, name, effect…). The idea must be approved by us, if not, you will need to use a different one. We’re more than willing to work it out, but there are some things that can’t be put into the game (our decision is final). If you want to use your own art, that’s a possibility too.
We wanted the Stretch Goals to be more cards added to the game. The cards that are unlocked as Stretch Goals will be included in the game. The names of the cards may change during the making of the game, but the theme will be kept. As Stretch Goals are unlocked, more will be revealed.
$15,000 - Doki Doki Love! is funded!
$20,000 - Swimwear Equips Goal - Who doesn’t want some beach fanservice cards? Three equip cards will be added to the game. The Bikini is a must have to see the lovely ladies in, while the Speedo will give the ladies some fanservice as well. And if you aren’t that daring, that’s fine, there are regular Swim Trunks that you can wear.
$25,000 - More Beach Cards Goal - I think we’re still in the beach episode… Watch your clothes, the Action card Tentacle will be added to the game. And if you’re not a fan of bikinis, the One-piece Swimsuit equip card will be added. And since it’s the beach, there should be a Beach Trip! trip card, right? It just makes sense to have it.
$30,000 - Trip, Trip, Trips! Goal - Don’t you just love going on trips? This stretch goal will add three more trips to the game. Relax in the soothing Hot Springs, see fireworks at Hanabi, and when school is out, enjoy your Summer Vacation. All are great places to progress your love.
$35,000 - More Equips Goal - More equip cards will be added in order to help help you out in your pursuit of love. Hero Goggles are a classic for main characters to wear. Shoujo Bubbles will make your Hero look extra dreamy and Strength of Will will help your Hero endure any hardships along the way.
We are Kokoro Beat! Games. That really doesn't explain much though... Actually we are two guys, Adam and Jeb, who want to make games and be able to have people play and enjoy them. This is our first Kickstarter project, so we are going to give it our all to make sure it succeeds and all the supporters enjoy what they receive from it.
Adam is the genius behind the game. He gave it life and then forgot to water it daily...
Jeb is the details guy. He is the one who takes cares of the details and organization. He won't get much sleep until the very end of this (maybe not even then).
Together they form a team of vast, useless knowledge that goes towards creating the fun cards in the game. With a strong background in watching Anime, they will do their best to bring ideas to the table that everyone will enjoy.
For the artwork of this project, we have decided to use a handful of artists. The main reason for this was because only using one artist would require a longer amount of time to have the game completed. By using more artists, the time for making the artwork is reduced and we can bring the game to you sooner than if we only used one artist. There is a possibility for some artwork to change as the project goes along, but we hope the changes will be minimal. Additional artists may be added, and if that occurs, we will use our best judgement for deciding.

We promise to deliver a product that we are proud to call our own. Please know that we will do our very best to fulfill our promises in this campaign. We hope everyone will enjoy the game (and possibly future expansions).
Currently we only have reward tiers that ship the game to US backers. Due to how varying shipping costs to international countries can be, we do not have a reward tier for international backers. If you are not in the US and want us to set up a tier for international backers, make your voice heard in the comments section. If there is a high demand for the game outside of the US, we will try to figure out a way to get it to everyone. As of right now, the shipping would average about $30-40 for International backers through the manufacturing site we will use.
Risks and challenges
As of right now, the game is being playtested. Upon funding, the artists will begin drawing the artwork for the cards. Once all cards have their wording and artwork completed, they will be sent out to be printed. Also during printing, the counters, rulebook, and box will be made. This process could possibly have delays, since we have not done this before.
Another risk is using artists from DeviantArt. We will try our best to keep the artwork the same as what is shown, but there is always the possibility of an artist not being able to do additional work. If that happens, another artist will be found.
We will try to have everything go as smoothly as possible. We will update as much as we can. If for some reason we cannot meet the deadline for delivery, we will let you know how much longer it will be (we hope this doesn't happen though).Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
