What is Villapalooza?
Villapalooza is a non-profit, free, all-day, all-ages world music & arts festival dedicated to creating safe spaces for arts and community engagement. On September 5th, 2015, Villapalooza is set to host its largest festival to date, with a one-day event that will include local food and craft vendors, art galleries, family activities and showcase over 25 performers on three stages.
Founded in 2011, Villapalooza has emerged as one of Chicago's most popular and diverse grassroots music festivals. Entering its fifth year, Villapalooza is expected to attract more than 15,000 attendees and make its debut across five city blocks along 26th Street, the main corridor of the Midwest's largest Mexican community. The Little Village community is home to over 80,000 residents, an estimated 40,000 (50%) who are under the age of 25, and 24,000 (30%) who are under the age of 18. Villapalooza programming continually seeks ways of engaging this young and energized population through the arts and in their own community.
Risks and challenges
How Can You Help?
Since 2011, Villapalooza attendance has more than doubled every year. In 2015, online RSVPs for the festival surpassed those for all of 2014 in less than 24 hours and continue to grow daily. As excitement builds and the festival grows, the ongoing challenge has been to keep the overhead costs low in order to continue maintaining the festival free of charge and sustainable. While we hope to overcome this challenge by expanding the number of collaborations, sponsors, and community partners, your help and contributions to this kickstarter campaign will ensure the festival remains accessible to all.
Villapalooza is produced entirely by volunteers, community organizers, educators, artists, and youth and we hope you too can join us in making this event possible!
