2013 couldn't be described as anything less than SUCCESSFUL! With your help, we proudly met all of our goals and developed from local act to regional touring band!
And after 4 years of doing this, our commitment to music has never been more evident. Through hard work and your support, SOCIO is well on its way to becoming a national act. We've accomplished so much together and now we ask that you join us once more! Let's take the next step and become the National movement we envisioned we would become when we started 4 years ago!
With loftier goals and ambitions, come heftier investments. The following is a list of expenses we face to begin 2014
Recording, Mixing, Mastering the EP = $5,000 (PAID)
Printing and quality professional packaging = $1,200 (PAID)
Online distribution = $100 (PAID)
National Radio Promotion of "Find the Time" EP = $2,000 (PAID)
National Publicity Campaign for "Find the Time" EP = $1,250 (PAID)
Independent promotion of tour dates and "Find the Time" EP = $2,000
Professional Tour Van and Trailer = $12,000
Tour to SXSW (Austin, TX) to showcase and promote "Find the Time" EP = $4,300
-We have 3 showcases booked in Austin during the biggest music conference/festival in the country (South by Southwest SXSW). March 12th we perform at the Handlebar. March 14th we perform at Bourbon Girl as well as The Lodge on 6th.
2014 Total touring expenses/cost of life on the road = $4,000
New merchandise set up and material = $3,000
TOTAL COSTS = $34,850
TOTAL PAID using 2013 tour earnings = $9,550
TOTAL INVESTMENT STILL NEEDED = $25,300*
*As we mention in our Kickstarter video, though we need about $25,000, the initial investment of $9,300 is the exact amount we need to fund earning the rest. We'll be able to earn the difference through touring, playing shows, selling CDs, and selling music licenses. But we can't do any of it without the up front money! We've budgeted our needs very carefully and this is the exact amount we need to make 2014 the success it is meant to be.
Risks and challenges
As with many bands and artists, the hold ups in writing and producing a professional CD can seem commonplace. In our case, not only have we demonstrated our ability to create new and professional content in 2013, but we've already completed our 3rd EP which we will be promoting as we spread across the country throughout 2014. There are no concerns with production hold ups or concerns of quality as we enter an even more professional arena. Our material has been played on the radio across the country and we have sold licenses to companies like Viacom, MTV, and the Discovery Channel Networks.
In 2012 we laid down a solid foundation to expand throughout our region. In 2013 we established ourselves around that region and launched several tours between the East Coast and the Midwest. We successfully lived on the road together and played a minimum of two shows per week from the course of April through December. Not only did we accomplish this, but we did it profitably and EARNED money as opposed to losing money on our tour investments, unlike most new touring bands. With this experience, we're certain that we can meet the challenges faced with continued expansion.
