Ever feel like you are born into this world only to spend a lifetime going home? At 50 years old, I’ve found myself living in a place I’ve never lived before. My father grew up in this town and my grandfather and great-grandfather lived and worked this land. It’s been 200 years since my grandmother’s great grandfather arrived here and built by the shores of Seneca Lake. It’s taken me a half a century to get here, but I’m pretty confident I’ve found home in a place called Hector, NY, my Small Town, America.
I’ve spent my musical career writing and recording music inspired by the great outdoors. There is no doubt that my slice of the Finger Lakes in upstate New York is breathtakingly beautiful and inspiring. But my inspiration this time around, more than anything, is derived from the amazing people who live here. Everyday life, every day people who all seem to agree, that they are better people just for living here.
Small Town, America combines my eclectic interests in musical styles. Elements of roots rock (Small Town, America), blues (Baby’s On Her Way), Jazz (Love Me Tonight), progressive folk (Miracle-One Honest Man, Fade to Black), pop-rock (You Make Me Feel Like I Do), Acoustic Instrumental (The Ghost Next Door), and Traditional Folk (The Water is Wide). It's a hybrid just like the place where I live and a reflection of the vibrant music scene in nearby Ithaca, NY.
INSTRUMENTATION & MUSICIANS:
I’ve got some very talented musical friends who, if I asked, would play on my album and not ask for anything in return. Many of these friends make their living solely off their music, just as I do. These guys are all hard working and talented musicians who deserve to be paid. I need your help in order to do that. I’ll be singing and playing acoustic, electric, and slide guitars. Here is the rest of the team: Doug Robinson – Acoustic Bass, Eric Aceto – Violin, Mandolin, Raymond Zajac – Drums, Percussion, Dave Messmer – Electric Bass, Brett Beardslee – Harmonica
Small Town America, One Honest Man-Miracle, Love Me Tonight, On Her Way, If I had a Boat, Fade to Black, Equinox Coming, Blue Canvas Sky, Come Together, The Water is Wide, Two Goats Beer, The Ghost Next Door, You Make Me (Feel Like I Do)
I’ve owned my own recording studio for over 20 years and that has greatly reduced my production costs on this and all the records I produce. Please visit my website www.orchardbeat.com to find out what I've been up to. I need your help to print the first 1,000 copies of Small Town, America with liner notes packaged in enviro-friendly cardboard sleeves. The songs are written. The musicians are ready. If we reach this funding goal together, this CD will be out by the first week of July. Your donations will be used to pay some extremely talented musicians and will allow me to finish pressing the first thousand CDs.I won't be able to afford it without the generosity of music and arts supporters such as yourself.
It's a humbling experience to actually seek out funding to keep my corner of the arts world alive. I'm extremely grateful to have made my living off of music for the last two decades. This time around I am going to need a little bit of help to get this project through the gate. Thanks so much for considering this and for supporting independent music.
