Hi! I'm Nick Derington and a few months ago I launched my first Kickstarter to create a set of screen printed posters celebrating some of the greatest Boss Fights from my favorite console games of the 80's. The success of that campaign has led me to return with a new art project that pays homage to the PC gaming scene of the 90's.
Boss Fight 2 - Ode to Id
If you played video games through the 90's you had the unique privilege of seeing the birth, development and utter domination of the First Person Shooter genre. These games meant hours of racing through low-fi mazes, uncovering secrets and decimating hundreds of pixelated enemies (and friends!). For all that effort and tenacity, you were rewarded with a final showdown.
The Boss Fight!
However, the pixelated sprites and clunky 3D models of the 90's could never truly capture the experiences that were happening in our minds. This art project attempts to visualize those final encounters in all their magnificence so that we can once again quake at the player's impending doom.
Stretch Goals!
First off, I want to thank all the backers for making this project a success already! My goal for this project was reached on the FIRST DAY of the campaign. The enthusiasm for this project has been incredible!
THANK YOU!
Stretch Goal #1 Has been met! "Class of 93" is an 8x10 archival quality giclee print, on coldpress natural watercolor paper, signed and numbered by the artist. If our campaign hits $20,000, everyone who backs the project at any of the complete 3-poster set reward levels, will get one of these included, FREE of charge! So if you've already backed the project, spread the word for us, and if we hit our goal, you'll get one of these prints! Again, thank you so much for all the support!
Stretch Goal #2
For our second stretch goal we want dip into the Easter Eggs of PC Gaming and bring to life a creature recruited by game devs the world wide to populate the darkest corners of over 70 games.
Ladies and Gentleman, Dopefish Lives.
When we hit $22,000 ALL orders will receive a FREE 3" Dopefish sticker and help us all make the real world be a little more like a video game.
Thanks!

PRINTING
Printing will be handled by Tim Doyle and the dedicated print crew of Nakatomi Print Labs. Nakatomi produces their prints by hand- from mixing the colors, burning the screens, slinging the squeegee, and racking the prints for drying. This creates a unique artisinal quality that can't be duplicated by any other means.
The best part is that Nakatomi is located here in Austin, TX. This allows me to personally oversee all stages of production while taking advantage of Nakatomi's reputation for incredibly fast printing and fast shipping. Tim is not only a great artist and printer but a friend of 20 years.
SHIPPING
Shipping will begin within ONE MONTH of the end of this funded project. No longtime waiting like you may have encountered with other kickstarter projects! We literally have an entire silk-screen print shop and shipping center ready and at our disposal for this project. Each print will be safely rolled in kraft paper and shipped in a double-walled telescoping crush-proof tube, with metal endcaps! We can and will ship internationally. Behold, pixelated dreams made physical.
Dopefish Lives!
Risks and challenges
For this project, the risks and challenges are very small. The art work is already done and the printing arrangements are entirely in line - we just need to know how many prints to produce. We believe Kickstarter is the ideal place to take this project to make sure that every one who wants to get on board CAN do so.
Instead of waiting months (or sometimes years) for the delivery of your Kickstarter rewards, this project will begin shipping within one month of the end of the funded project. NakatomiInc.com will handle all production and shipping. While they are a small mom-and-pop nerd-shop, they've been producing and shipping screenprints worldwide for 6 years now - this is what they do. They've successfully fulfilled literally tens of thousands of orders to date. No matter how big this project may go, they've got the fulfillment covered - from print shop to shipping to customer service, everything is already squared away and in place. If this project goes SUPER BIG, production time to fulfill every order might take a bit longer. It wouldn't delay the start of printing, it would simply lengthen production time to get all the prints printed and shipped out the door. It would take a staggeringly large amount of backers to extend the month-long production time we've planned for.
