We began working on "Nightfall at Camp Havenwood" in August with just a simple idea for a game and a desire to create something that the world hadn't seen yet. Over the last seven months we have been working tirelessly to design what we hope is a unique, and extremely fun gaming experience for all who play. We also hope to provide the fastest turnaround possible. In order to do so we have assembled all of our card art and layouts, designed the chits, counters and custom dual dials for the game.Though DNA Games is a new game design company, the four team members of this project have a combined 40+ years of gaming experience. This has provided a very strong sense of what type of game we wanted to create with "Nightfall at Camp Havenwood," as well as the type of games we will continue to create for the "Havenwood Horror" brand and other titles to come.
Our overall goal is to be a game design company that not only creates visually stimulating, and extremely fun games, but also a company that listens to it's customer base and responds.
Now to what you really want to see. (Scroll to the bottom to see add-on opportunities.)
$23,521- A Nightmare is Born- We've done it!! "Nightfall at Camp Havenwood" has funded, and it is all your fault...THANK YOU!!
DNA Games was founded by best friends, Allen McFarland and Donald Marter. After meeting in Kindergarten, the two embarked on a journey through the world of gaming that has lasted more than 27 years. Through their quest to design new, exciting, and unique titles, they have added an expert scribe, Jade Duguay, and a master artist, Amanda Howe, to their party ranks.
Allen "The Talent" McFarland- A product of the 80's and having grown up in the 90's, this passionate game designer and player takes his gaming and Saturday morning cartoons very seriously. The detail oriented member of the DNA Games crew, Allen keeps the game and ship running tightly. He began his gaming career with Magic: The Gathering back in 1996, and has since grown into an experienced gamer and game designer with an appreciation for many different types of games.
"Big" Don Marter- Also having been born in the 80's and having grown up through the 90's, "Big' Don took it upon himself to seek out several different gaming opportunities throughout his youth. The most broad ranged gamer of DNA Games, Don began his gaming life with a vintage card game called Marvel Overpower. Shortly after being introduced to hobby gaming he found a love for both Magic: The Gathering, thank you Allen, and Dungeons and Dragons, thank you dad.
Jade "The Scribe" Duguay- Jade was introduced into the world in 1986, but she was reborn into the world of gaming in 2007 with Settlers of Catan. Now an avid gamer in her own right, Jade put her amazing writing skills to the test with being the majority contributor on our first and second prototypes, lent her creative brain to the creative process and is our social media liaison on the interwebs. When Jade isn't scheduling demo events and maintaining our Factatweedit account, she is usually playing mother hen to the sometimes Attention Deficit game designers at the table.
Amanda "The Artiste" Howe- Another child of the 90's and product of the amazingly gory desensitization in horror movies, Amanda was the perfect choice for our macabre nightm...dream. With a mysterious gaming past, and a dark sense of humor, Amanda "The Artiste" Howe has not only been a phenomenal addition to the team, but has helped make "Nightfall at Camp Havenwood" the suspense filled horror survival game it deserves to be. She also likes long walks in the woods, swimming by moonlight, and dragging any victim she can down to the depths to join the other miserable souls that are trapped there.
Together these four noble visionaries seek to bring about a collection of exhilarating, and challenging games, for game players of every level to enjoy and share.
Risks and challenges
DNA Games is an awesomely new and growing game design company from the gaming capitol of the world, Indianapolis, Indiana. As a new game company, we are faced with having to compete with larger, more experienced companies that have controlled a majority of the game marketplace for years.
However, like an Italian plumber scaling scaffolding to take on massive, princess stealing ape, we are meeting that challenge head on with the production of our extremely entertaining, and unique first project "Nightfall at Camp Havenwood."
Our first challenge for the production of this game is having it manufactured outside of the U.S. The production cost in the states is expensive, and with a budget that is only efficient for buying boxes of Ramen and toilet paper, we have chosen to have our game made by a very proficient and reputable game publisher in China.
There are multiple risks that we face producing our game this way. The first is the logistical risk with having our games shipped overseas, especially when you consider the threats of pirates, massive sea serpents that eat awesome games for breakfast, or the constant threat of being attacked by Cthulhu himself.
Then, if they are shipped properly and without being destroyed by elder gods, we risk having delays for customs and other legal processes that have to be completed before we have the game in the hands of our lovely patrons, which of course is our goal.
However, we have addressed these concerns by arranging for a group of dedicated cultists to be present for the trip from China to Boston, and we have a specialized logistics company that will not only ship our product to the states, but will also be assisting us with the fulfillment of our orders once the game has arrived back home.
Our second challenge, and the reason we have decided to reach out to you through kickstarter, is our lack of funds to produce "Nightfall at Camp Havenwood." The goal that we have set for just over $23,521 covers the printing of all of the cards in the base game, the 8 meeples included in the game, five custom spinner dials, cardboard chits and counters, all of the shipping components (ie. the box and divider), and the transporting of the game from our manufacturer in China to our distributor in Boston.
In order to address this challenge, we have been working tirelessly since August on artwork and card layouts, rules sets and playtesting, and the overall promotion of our game on the local market level providing the most rapid kickstarter turnaround we can achieve for all of our backers and future "Nightfall at Camp Havenwood" owners.By the time this campaign ends our game will be fully ready for production, and thus, our patrons and sponsors will only have to wait for the game to be made by our manufacturer, shipped to our distributor, and sent out to them. No four year time table for a game that is only conceptualized.
In conclusion, the funding of "Nightfall at Camp Havenwood," and the manufacturing and shipping of our game are the two most important challenges we face with this project. We have poured over every detail of this game time and time again, and we know that "Nightfall at Camp Havenwood" will deliver an incredibly fun, never before seen game that you will enjoy over and over again. We are so excited to see this project come into existence, and we thank all of you for your help making this dream happen.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
