About The Project
Matteo's Day Off tells the story of a boy who wakes up on an island in the South Pacific. While he learns about the power of culture, and of community, he learns about the implications of climate change on the future of these islanders who have become his friends.
Our intention with the book is simple: to educate kids (and their parents and teachers) of an urgent global problem that is currently impacting the fate of millions of islanders and hundreds of cultures that might soon perish due to climate change.
A Little More Detail About The Problem
The tides are slowly rising due to climate change and within the next 50 years, countries like the country of Tuvalu and Kiribati in the South Pacific will be submerged by water.
For many of these islanders who have never been exposed to the western civilization, this is unsettling. They don't know where they will go: there are few places accepting these environmental refugees and the countries that do have a criteria based on education and finances and expect the islanders to learn the skill-sets, the language, and the culture to succeed and contribute to the common welfare of the country. What is at stake? A beautiful culture and the islanders who don't fit the criteria.
"The era of procrastination, of half measures, of soothing and baffling expedients, of delays is coming to its close. In its place we are entering a period of consequences." --Winston Churchill

I am just a young man with a vision, I don't expect to eradicate this global problem, but I have the conviction that the more that people understand and are aware of the issues going on in the world, the more likely people are to become proponents of change.
I am just a kid who happened to stumble across Matteo's Story.

Risks and challenges
Our friends and family will be great supporters, we know that. But our biggest challenge is reaching school teachers and the young community so they are aware of Matteo's Day Off. We are contacting as many organizations as possible and looking for an awesome distributor to help us out. Other complications might include not being able to get the products to you in time (but don't worry, they will absolutely get there. I am currently uncertain how long it will take me to find a designer and publisher in order to start printing). Your help, even to the dollar, is so incredibly important to us. You have no idea how appreciative we are and how excited we are to make this happen.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
