I am crazy about games and helping kids be creative and have fun. Too many games these days seem over complicated and expensive for kids. I was looking for a way to create a kid-friendly game that was simple and maybe even fun for adults when I thought of dice. When I was a kid I could roll dice for hours and be entertained. These dice give you a variety of games. They were originally created as a way to help kids tell stories. Coming up with something from nothing during story time can be a challenge for anyone especially a kid. I found quickly that my stories aren't never-ending either. Story time becomes even more fun when the kids can be involved in rolling or choosing the dice and seeing what fun comes out tonight. However, dice for only this purpose felt a little wasteful. There has to be more you can do with dice that have 30 little pictures on them right? I challenged myself to come up with a set of games that push kids to be more articulate, creative, and expressive; and that adults could participate in as well. I arrived at Black Rabbit dice.
Synonyms are a fundamental piece of any language. Being able to explain yourself in a variety of ways is crucial to an individuals education. In Game 1 of Black Rabbit players roll the 5 dice and look for two dice that have a name or component that begin with the same letter. For example if I have a picture of a boat piece of pizza and a garbage can, I might see that a garbage can could also be called a garbage pail. I would pick up those two dice and shout out the linking words "Pail" and "Pizza" and roll them to reveal two new pictures. If the two new pictures reveal a ghost and a lightbulb I might see that the ghost and boat have the letter B in common because a ghost says "Boo". This person would receive a point for each of those connections. As a group you can decide how far you can push the limits. Players may also choose to push creativity to another level by including adjectives that explain the pictures. Typically adjectives that are not specific to the picture are discouraged. For example Wonderful would not be a way to describe a picture because it could be used on all or any picture.
In game 2 of Black Rabbit players are looking for compound words or phrases that can be represented by two or more of the dice. For example, if I roll an egg and fire I might pick them up and say "fried-egg". A clock and a bomb might combine to be a "time-bomb", or the clock and book might say "story-time" to someone else. Players would take these two dice and re-roll them giving themselves a point if the group agrees that there is a clear enough connection. When playing with younger players you may choose to not do compound words or phrases, but just a simple connection of any kind. For example a pine tree and a fire are connected by the camping category.
Story telling is one of the fastest ways I know to reinforce creative thinking and improve fluency of speech. I spent most of my High School days competing in Speech and Debate in the Impromptu section. I would have loved to have a set of these dice to practice giving a speech with certain criteria on the spot. "Fake it until you make it" in this game as you struggle to convince people that you have the story all under control.
A memory game for kids and adults. Each person takes one or more dice and has them in front of them. Player number one rolls their die and says: "I've going on a vacation and I'm taking:" and says what is pictured on the die (up to their interpretation). Then the next person proceeds in a like manner but must say the previous player's item and then their own. Once somebody messes up their dice is given to the neighboring player and gameplay continues until one person has all the dice or until they cannot remember anymore. It is a great visual/verbal memorization exercise.
I am all about incentive. If we can get the $500.00 that will get this into your hands then I say we go for more and get you even more dice. I selected these images with children in mind and tried to make the majority of them immediately recognizable by kids. Our stretch goals will go beyond that I most likely include images that kids may not immediately recognize from more diverse categories.
Stretch Goal 1: $650.00 - All Black Rabbit, Adult Package, and Elitist Backers will receive the Retro Die. This dice includes images of a Cassette, Poke-Ball, Record Player, Typewriter, CRT (Box) Television set (complete with bunny ears), and a transistor radio.

Risks and challenges
Designing new icons is always a challenge and in the Elitist reward I offer custom icons to go on the dice. While I cannot promise the creation of any icon as an immediately recognizable symbol, I look forward to the challenge. Having done graphic design work for the last 6 years I think I am equal to the task. Go ahead and ask me to put Godzilla on a dice that is just over a 1/2 Inch wide but know that the more complicated you get the less recognizable it may be.
Production is next to fool proof. There is a chance that a disaster may happen in the engraving process and that a couple dice will be ruined but there should be sufficient funds to make those replacements.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
