House-Lamp is a hand crafted, architecturally inspired luminary... beautiful by day and magical at night.
House-Lamps playfully draw on classic house forms and integrate the warmth of light to create a lamp like no other. Seeing a House-Lamp can remind one of homes once dwelled in, fond memories shared, and dreams to come.
I started House-Lamp to combine a couple of my greatest joys: making things with my own two hands, and architectural design.
I've spent over a year developing House-Lamp to bring you the best lamp I can. I've hauled lumber on subways and buses, spent lots of my hard earned cash, routed and re-routed bases, written my own theme music, and have made more models than I know what to do with. It has been a lot of work, a ton of fun, and I'm thrilled to finally launch on Kickstarter. I believe in this product and want to make one just for you.
Reaching my $5,000 goal will fund the production of all the rewards and allow me to start a business of my own by covering business start up expenses. By forming a business, I'll be able to develop more House-Lamp designs and other creations I've been dreaming up. Your support is needed and greatly appreciated. If the goal is not reached, no one gets his or her awesome reward and I don't get to build a business.
Each House-Lamp comes on either a stained solid wood base or a plywood base with a natural finish. You will specify which base you want in a follow up order form once the project is funded. Lamps are approximately 7-1/4" wide, 14" long, and 18" tall. The shades have a 9" diameter. Lamps without the task lamp are approximately 8" tall. The plywood bases are shown on the left and the solid wood bases are shown on the right.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Because I have spent so long working on House-Lamp and honing the process of making them, by this time I am well versed in challenges and how to overcome them. However, know that this is a startup venture and a first production run. There may be a few surprises and setbacks lurking. I'll address a few concerns you may have below.
SUPPLIES: I use readily available supplies. Once the campaign is funded, I can place my orders and have them arrive within a couple of weeks.
OVERWHELMING ORDERS: I have set limits on each one of the House-Lamps. This is because I want to be able to deliver your lamp in a few months. Please be patient, knowing that a super successful campaign means some delay in receiving your reward.
PRODUCTION AND EQUIPMENT: All the cutting for each lamp is done at TechShop, a member-based workshop. This means I share equipment with a lot of other creative people. If a machine is heavily booked it could slow production.
COMMUNICATION: I will keep you informed through project updates every step of the way until you receive your reward. I'm really excited to start this adventure with you!
I WANT MY HOUSE-LAMP FOR THE HOLIDAYS: I know many of you are probably thinking that this would be an awesome holiday gift. I am glad to send you an elegant gift certificate (part of your order follow up form once the project is funded) so you can rest assured you won't be empty handed at your celebration.
Since the models are made out of wood, is there any kind of maintenance that we have to do over the long haul?
The models are unfinished basswood and should retain their color as long as they are kept in a stable, indoor environment. I've had architectural models made out of basswood for years and they still look the same. But, there still could be some slight variation over time just because wood is a natural material. Just to keep them nice and bright, I would recommend that you dust them carefully as needed with an air can duster (like the one you use for a computer keyboard).
The lamp bases are finished and protected and should not require any maintenance. However, wood does naturally change over time and is sensitive to sun so treat the lamps just like a nice piece of furniture. You may find that over the long haul you want to refinish it.
I really wish I could because a lot of you have been asking.
I have looked into shipping internationally through FedEx to many countries including the UK, Germany, Brazil, China, and Puerto Rico. The quotes I've been getting are all over the place, ranging from $60 to $250. There is no fair way to ask a flat fee for international shipping and Kickstarter doesn't really have a good way of individually charging for international shipping. I am definitely going to ship internationally once my business is up and running and I've made good on all the Kickstarter pledges.

No. The model making kit does not light up and does not come with a bulb.
No. There is only one design for the model making kit as shown in the photo. It is totally unique.
There are 2 types of lights in the lamp. The first one being for the task lamp - the one with the shade. The socket size is a typical one (E26) and takes a maximum 60 watt incandescent light bulb. I use an 11 watt CFL bulb. For energy efficiency, I highly recommend an LED bulb though they are a little pricy. In your order survey, I will ask if you want a CFL bulb included with your lamp.
The light that illuminates the house is a 1.2 watt LED bulb. It is a smaller "candelabra" size socket and is replaceable but only with the same type of LED bulb. It must burn cool so an incandescent or CFL bulb is not appropriate. Your lamp will come with this bulb.
