About this project
Football Highlights will be a browser based collectible card game, which will be free to play, although managers will be able to pay for additional benefits. It is based around the Highlights of the match so each play will be tense and crucial. Managers will be able to challenge anyone in the world to a friendly game and as the game develops, league systems and international competitions will be introduced.
So how does the game play?
Managers take it in turns to select a Highlight; each Highlight has a number of stages to be completed culminating in a chance on goal. Managers will match their players’ skills to progress the Highlight towards to goal chance, in the case of the attacker, or to end the Highlight in the case of the defender. Managers will play Action cards from their hands to boost their chances of success. Each action card has two parts either a pure numerical value or a special ability, such as the “Out of Position” card, which forces the other Manager to select another one of his players as his initial choice was out of position. This means, that unlike some other card games, each card in your hand will be useful at all times. The highlights and actions were all derived from real events in real football matches and the game is mathematically modeled to give the same spread of results as in real football. There are no, nor will there be, any power cards that break the game system. Games will be won with skill and luck on the smallest margins just like the actual game.
Is it like any other games?
If you have played any other collectible card games, such as Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Clash of Dragons or Eredan, you will be familiar with the concept of a collectible card game. This includes deck building, to plan your strategy before the match and cards of different rarities. Aside from that it plays very differently from any other game out there. I have been playing games for over 30 years and done freelance design for a big games company and I feel Football Highlights offers something truly unique. Your players will progress in their experience and when they reach a certain total they will progress to a new level, but watch out if you don’t play them the might regress. As a manager you will also be ranked on how well you do and you can compare yourself to other players from around the world.
For the Future
Initially Managers will be able to play friendlies, training matches, league matches and cup matches. As the game develops there will be continental club matches and internationals. Other features will be added to the game as it grows.

Does the game use real players?
• No, the Licence for English Premier League Players in a Collectible Card Game is held by TOPPS. However you can rename your own players and teams.
Will it ever use real players?
• In the short term no. In the future, who can tell? I envisage the game could in the future have the ability to have the England team of 1990’s against the Brazil team of the 1970’s. As with everything it is all down to money.
Is it easy to play?
• Like all good games it is easy to play but hard to master. A new player has a chance of beating an established player, but good cards and skill will normally carry the day.
Will free players be at a disadvantage to pay players?
• All functionality will be available to free players. Pay players will just be able to speed things up and tweak things.
Risks and challenges
There's always the chance something will go wrong; however, we will take all necessary precautions to ensure this game will be completed, no matter the issue. If anything should cause a delay in release date, we will always be upfront about the state of the project, the estimated time of the delay, and what we are doing to rectify the issue to get the game out there as soon as we can.

There are 2 types of money; Gate Receipts (GR) and Chairman's Funds (CF). You get GR for playing matches and logging in regularly. Chairman's Funds will slowly accrue to all coaches but the main way will be with real cash.
GR can be spent on booster packs (which have new cards and players), or at the player auction, at the card auction, on team energy and on scouting the opposition amongst other things.
CF can buy all of the things GR can buy but will also allow special actions such as the immediate skill up of players, starting second teams or leagues or maybe making yourself as a player.
This is not an exhaustive list but should give an idea how it works.
