This isn't one of those kickstarters where we sell you on how great this is going to be and then let you come and have afternoon tea with us for a grand. If you want to have afternoon tea with us, you can do that for the price of an afternoon tea - and that's only if you bump into us when we don't have our wallets. No. This is a technical, simple and hypeless kickstarter. This is a kickstarter reduced to first year game theory.
We already raised the money for this album - it was amazing and went better than we ever hoped it could. We put together our preorder packages based on the idea that every item listed could be made in sufficiently small quantities that we could guarantee every order based on the price charged. This is all you need for CDs, books, posters, handcrafts and all the other things that still leave a livable profit margin on short run orders.
This is not true about vinyl LPs. Vinyl LPs are made by making one very expensive thing and then using that to make cheap things. As such, the cost of even a few copies is more than we can afford unless recouping through sales is guaranteed. We asked people who pre ordered to fill in a form if they were willing to pay £20 for a copy on vinyl. So far we have had enough very eager responses that we could risk it, but if only one or two drop out we'll lose more than we can budget for - it's a tricky decision for us, so we're using kickstarter to take it out of our hands.
If we make the target, we'll have enough in the kitty to make up the extra that we'll need and go ahead with the order. If we go significantly over the target, we'll spend the money on extra design features. If we don't make the target, then that's fine by us - no one's lost anything and we'll all have learned a valuable lesson about what kind of formats people like to listen to indie albums on these days.
Unless the target is dwarfed by pledges, we won't really make anything from this - except in excess stock that we'll put up for sale afterward at gigs and on our site - but we'd love to make a beautiful long playing record for those of you that want one, so we really really hope there's enough of you lovable vinyl junkies clinging on out there to let us.

Risks and challenges
Aside from fires, flooding, a meteor strike or some other act of a vengeful and vinyl-hating God, all a funded project will do is allow us to press send on the order.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
