My name is Scott Evans and I am the co-writer and animator of The Bar Stewards. We want to create a compilation promotional video for our late night animation The Bar Stewards, so that it can be presented to interested parties in order to secure a commission for a pilot episode.
We love adult humor animated TV shows such as Family Guy, South Park, American Dad and the Simpsons and we think that The Bar Stewards is a show full of great characters and crazy storylines that span across many genres, such as sci-fi, horror and action adventure.
So what is the Bar Stewards?
Imagine South Park meets Cheers. The show would center around a family of misfits who have taken over a bar at a seaside town after being run out of their home city.
What should be a nice little pub, in a pleasant little holiday town, where the family can enjoy a quiet life turns out to be the hub of all the strangest things you can imagine to happen. The three main characters in the show are Jacob Cox (a young 20 year old man whose arrogance and ambitions severely out weigh his businessman abilities), his total opposite identical twin brother Miller and their unlucky friend (and tragic dogs body) Curly.
Also with them are the rest of the Cox family, which consist of the menacing ex gang lord Irish mother (who is the reason why the family was run out of the city by her mutinous gang), a hopeless dodgy father, a evil little sister and the perfect brother who hides a terrible secret, as well as all the weird, wonderful and dangerous ‘people’ who visits their establishment for a beer. As this is an animation, there are no limits to what problems our characters can encounter, such as invading aliens, a vengeful God, a twisted genie, time travel, super powers, a rival megalomaniac landlord hell bent of the world domination of pubs and drink’s that really do make you do things that you don't want to do, plus much more!

What we wish to create is a teaser trailer that will showcase exactly what the show will be like. It will introduce all of the main characters, set the tone and show clips from the first Barstewards season. We can then use this promotional trailer to approach interested parties. The teaser trailer would begin with the two main characters (twins, Jacob and Miller) waking up on the floor of their bar, the morning after the night before. Jacob rubs his weary head and looks around. He see’s destruction everywhere (and something comical that is in the bar that shouldn't be there) and he turns to his brother and asks ‘What the hell happened last night?’ to which Miller replies, ‘Oh just the usual’. Then the promo cuts to a montage of manic clips from the entire season. We will animate scenes from each of the episodes that we have planned.
To create this initial trailer we need funding and your generous, and very much appreciated pledges would allow us to be able to create all of the backgrounds, props, and characters, music and dialogue and then of course, create the animation.
£2,940 would allow my animation partner and I the chance to create the teaser trailer that could get full length pilot episode green lighted. If we could raise more money then it would allow us even more time to create even more clips for the montage, this would be great but £2,940 would help us achieve our goal and get us on the road to creating a show that we believe could be hugely popular on television. For your pledges we believe we have come up with some great rewards, which you can see to the right of this page.
For those of you who don’t know how Kickstarter works, you will only be charged if we make the total that we have asked for (£2,940). If this amount is not met, then we do not receive anything and you get to keep your pledges. If that does happen, we hugely thank anyone who does pledge for trying to help make the Bar Stewards get one step closer to becoming a top new animated television show.
We hope that you like the sound of The Bar Stewards and choose to get involved. If you would like to contact us or follow the development of the show on a weekly basis, please visit www.facebook.com/thebarstewards Feel free to send us a message, we will reply to everyone. We will look forward to hearing from you soon.

Risks and challenges
The biggest hurdle we face at the moment is time. My partner and I would love to take time off from our usual demanding design work but it is not possible for us to just stop working. I am a freelancer and if I am not working, I am not earning and if I am not earning then the mortgage and all the other bills don't get paid. So at the moment time available to work on this project is scarce but your help would allow us to work full time for a couple of weeks on creating our promotional animation which we can then use to pitch and secure finance for producing a pilot episode.
How quickly will we produce the promo trailer if we are successful?
I will start work on the animations as soon as possible. This may take 2-3 weeks as I will need to complete projects that I have already committed to for my design business, but as soon as I have fulfilled those commitments, I will clear my diary and work on the animation until I have finished all of my parts in it. If you view the testimonials on my website at www.lookcreativestudio.co.uk you will see that I work tirelessly to always deliver as promised, it is something that I take great pride in.
Antony, who will be producing all of the 3D elements and special effects to layer over the 2D animation, works for other design studios as well as being a freelancer, so his time will be more spread out as he would not be able to take 2 weeks straight off. This means Antony's involvement may take up to two weeks longer than mine.
If the project is successful, the campaign will end at the start of December, which is basically Christmas time now, so the festive season will no doubt make an impact on production. Taking everything into consideration we would envisage to have the promo trailer completed by the end of January 2013, though we would hopefully have it finished much sooner than that. You will be able to follow our progression at www.facebook.com/thebarstewards where we will keep you updated constantly.
Are there any other risks?
In terms of production, no. We are producing the work ourselves and we are reliable and reputable designers. What other risks could there be?
Comedy is subjective. Some people find shows like Family Guy and South Park hilarious, whilst others find them not funny. Will our show be funny? We hope so, but that would be impossible to guarantee but we can offer some
examples. First of all are the episode ideas above. Do you like the sound of these, do they sound like episodes that you would like to watch?
Secondly, the Bar Stewards is loosely based on a book I wrote back in 2009. It was called Memoirs of a bar steward and you can download it online at https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/20569
Our animation will use the same characters from the book but there will be some big differences. Whilst a lot of crazy things happens to the main character Jacob and also to his family in the book, everything is firmly reality based and there is one long on going storyline. The animation will be quite different because each episode will have its own stand alone story and whilst the book concentrated chiefly on Jacob, the animation will focus on THREE main characters Jacob, Miller and Curly and they will get into much more strange situations, such an encountering aliens, magic genies, super villains and much more. I wrote Memoirs of a Bar Steward alone, but I have worked with Antony to produce the ideas for the newly developed animated version and I feel that Antony has thought up lots of new hilarious comedy elements for the show.
The promotional trailer is all scripted out. We have created the main scenery designs as you can see above and also the three main characters, all we need time for now is to complete the rest of the artwork and get it all animated and with your help we can do that.
Thank you very much and I hope that you will get involved in our project.
